I actually like the new Aatrox

Idk why everyone has only been complaining, from what I have seen. Yes he talks a lot, what did you expect? Riot is expanding his lore and developing the character. He was boring when he was just a silent stiff who had no lines. He is an apocalyptic monster, able and hell bent on killing almost everything. They gave him some cool interactions and made him fit to be a league incarnation of War, the horsemen( though they aren't horsemen lol)

His new model is way cooler. His old one made him look like a tall transvestite(no offense to anyone) with flags for wings. He is a bloodthirsty demonish monster and his old model didn't fit that well. The old wings were so ugly and one of the reasons I hated playing him. The new wings are probably inspired by samuel from darksiders.

and I am so happy they are taking notes from darksiders, it was a great game.

Overall I love the expansion of Darkin and I hope we get lore and a full on apocalyptic event going on.

Varus = Pestilence AAtrox = War Kayn = Death

We need one more rider.

It's building up to a targon vs void vs darkin (possible vs other world aka kayle/morgana theme too?) beat down and i would love to see that happen in the form of a new even game mode with a world ending theme.

Thank you for having a positive opinion about a new rework. Aatrox is my favorite of all time and I main, and it does get to me how all these "enlightened" players who aren't aatrox players just totally dumpster him. There's a few qualms here and there about his new model and VO (gonna miss his perma wings on his old model and he's way too "in your face" with his new VO lmfao). Overall, i love his new attitude, kit seems not as clunky IMHO. But we'll just have to wait and see how he performs!

Aatrox loyalist here. Yes, his model is pretty. Yes, the kit is modern and looks useful.

But what made him awesome and fun to play is gone now, and his character is just more generic and silly. He's gone from something sinister to a cheap Marvel villain. I absolutely hate the sellout feel of this rework.

Because of dumb people like you Riot won't do anything about the shit rework!

His walk animation just looks so odd and out of place. Like they used some My Sims level walking animation with it. Add some personality, a base walk animation is incredibly boring and has no flow. As well as with his attack animation for towers. It's like he's using a sword to chop a tree. It's so incredibly wonky and lacks any flow whatsoever. I hope they fix this in the future.

Other than that his voice lines are really weird. Before he seemed like an apex killer that was was of high standard and elegance and now it seems like he's spent too much time with Jinx/Jhin. It may be that I just dislike his Voice (And that's totally the case) but it sounds terrible.

Overall I feel like this rework helped to make him and Rhaast a bit more distinct(EDIT:In terms of design, not VO).

Aatrox really feels like a demonic leader now(I know he isn't a demon in the lore, but he is clearly based on them designwise),when he ults he looks like a being that would lead the legions of hell, while Rhaast feels more like a regular demonic brute,he doesn't convey the same feeling of being a leader.

He is an apocalyptic monster, able and hell bent on killing almost everything.

As far as thematic is concerned, I think this is where people take the biggest issue. A key part of old Aatrox was that he was somewhat neutral. He didn't actually want to kill everything; in fact he swooped in and helped the losing side in a battle. That was sort of his thing, and possibly the most unique aspect of his lore and character (not saying much since in my opinion he was pretty bland overall, but its something)

I think giving him more goals, making him less mysterious and making him fit in with the new idea of Darkin they've established was perfectly fine. But I did think it was strange that they didn't retain the "helps the losers commit horrible war atrocities" part of his shtick.

We'll see if the longer lore changes my mind though.

I think the brunt of the Void's assault on Runeterra would be met by Freljordian Gods and Ascended Shurimans. I think The Darkin is strictly vs. Targonians unless The Darkin defeat the Targonians and proceed to the rest of Runeterra at which point they would eventually meet the rest of Runeterra's god-tier beings.

I dont see any problems with him tbh. His design looks better, his lore is better, but his kit is prob what the problem is. Many people may not like his kit because it's basically a modified Riven with some more range. Another thing is that Reworks are always bittersweet. They always make the character more advanced lore-wise but many people who mained him or used him might not like the new kit.

I'm an adc main who plays supp as the secondary role so it's no problem for me. Just my 2 cents.

What's not to like he has The base AD of a Juggernaut and the AA range aswell

While being hyper mobile

For the record, the horseman Varus is based on is actually Conquest, not Pestilence. Pestilence is often put in place of Conquest in popular culture since people tend to confuse War and Conquest for the same thing. Conquest isn’t so much about conflict like War is, but is more just nations overpowering and annexing one another.

It actually makes a lot of sense in the context of Varus’ character. He doesn’t care about having a real fight like Aatrox does; he’s just so consumed with rage and bloodlust and his need for revenge that all he wants is to annihilate the humans and everything they stand for. In other words, he wants to conquer them.

(Bible verse is Revelation 6:2, for the curious)
