Leona's Legendary skin and Diana skins
I will start this off as this is a positive take on Leona getting both skins, seriously both look amazing and I am super happy that she is getting these. The concept of a lunar eclipse or solar eclipse style of skin for her as a means of ascension or growth in power is amazing. I know a lot of Diana fans out there are upset over the fact that Diana didn't get the Lunar Eclipse skin because it fit her perfectly. I was that was for a minute or two but then thought about it. Leona is fitting for this skin because it feels like a huge turning point for her. Not to mention this only lines up Diana for a legendary skin that we don't expect. After all Blood Moon and Lunar Eclipse were two ideas we as fans had for Diana's legendary skin but here we are now without that being the case.
The skin team lately has done a lot of impressive skins, sure we don't have to like them all but they have been a improvement as time goes on. So all of my fellow Diana players take a moment and breath. We will get a skin fitting of Diana and it might very much tie into Leona's Eclipse skin. Imagine if she had a redeemed skin or something pushing even Diana beyond what we expect her limit being? Or if you want to go the darker route imagine if this is a AU where Leona is trying to save Diana from her fall into corruption? There are endless possibilities of things for our chosen of the moon just please be nicer on the Devs and understand they have a lot planned for us as a whole. They probably have countless skins bouncing around that they are eager as heck to show us and I for one can't wait for it.
- Now onto some things that we might have forgotten. First off with this new skin Leona has 3 lines for Diana. This is something that Caitlyn's Pulsefire skin lacks with Vi, her partner, aka Piltover's Finest. That alone proves to us as fans of Diana that Riot hasn't forgotten us.
- Also Diana is in the works for a Kit rework and VGU and Leona are set for a visual update (which this skin might be a sign that what is to come and that our duo is set for their slate soon. Of course after Kayle and Morgana)
Diana and Leona Reworks stated here
Honestly for their recent lore updates the are no longer at war with one another. Both Leona and Diana are both seeking one another to work together. Leona started hating Diana for what she did but events led to her seeing the truth and that her path was wrong. Diana had the same situation happen to her where she saw the fate of the world and how it would be if the two continued the war that the elders put on them. Diana's voice over lines are outdated and no longer fit her new lore so perhaps when they rework her kit and visuals she will probably get VO ( Much like Akali, Nunu, Irelia, and so on).
- Leona's lore, here, even shows that they are tied together. Two souls with the same destiny to save the world from something greater. Once enemies now seeking one another to be allies because both the Solari and Lunari were corrupt in their own ways. Below here is a cut from her lore stating something very interesting that might tie into this skin.
"The warrior who came down the mountain looked the same as the one who had climbed it, but inside Leona was much changed. She still had her memories and thoughts, was still master of her own flesh, but a sliver of something vast and inhuman had chosen her to be its mortal vessel. It gifted her with incredible powers and awful knowledge that haunted her eyes and weighed heavily upon her soul; knowledge she could only ever share with one person.
Now, more than ever, Leona knew she had to find Diana."
- Now for Diana's lore, here, that shows her situation in the Lunari vs Solari which even in her lore she states that they are meant to be allies and not enemies. Her slaughtering the elders was something she did out of pure anger, fear, and survival.
"Hunted by the warriors of the Ra-Horak, Diana now seeks to piece together the fragmentary memories of the Lunari hidden within her mind. Driven by half-remembered truths and glimpses of ancient knowledge, Diana has only one truth to cling to - that the Lunari and the Solari need not be foes, that there is a greater destiny for her than that of a simple warrior. What her destiny might be is unknown, but Diana will find it, whatever the cost."
Take this as you will but it's just some thing I wanted to get off my chest considering Diana and Leona both are what drew me into league. Though I am a Lunari fan through and through given my user name, I still really appreciate Leona as a character. Diana will get her time but for now lets all celebrate Leona getting her sunrise. So lets just see where the creative team lands these two that were once enemies, now seeking one another to fight something greater then a old war set onto them to save runeterra. Maybe this will draw them closer and they can be friends, allies, or perhaps something more to create a world where both Lunari and Solari can live in harmony.
