My take on the Updated Shyvana Lore and why it is a major downgrade to her character

So, just on the boards, saw a title about Shyvana's lore, skimmed it, remembered that another lore patch dropped, when to go double check Shyvana's bio since I figured she was a part of it and this basically sums up my reaction:

As a quick Tl'DR for those who don't know what's going on (or just are too lazy/don't care to read up on it), Shyvana's lore has ever so slightly been tweaked so now her father (dragon father) has been retconned out of the story and replaced with the mage that caused her birth in the first place as the one who raised her.

This...is a terrible update. Absolutely terrible and here are my reasons as to why that is:

1. Shyvana now has less of a connection to her dragon side with the loss of her dragon dad - The whole "living two worlds but not fitting in" is almost Shyvana's whole story. She is a hybrid of arguably one of the deadly monsters on Runeterra and one of the most common, wide spread intelligent beings as well. But that is what this update immediately throws out the window. Why and how you may ask? Because of Shyvana's dragon father. Shyvana's dad was the connection between her and her dragon side of her life. He was her caretaker, parent, guardian, everything that she had at the time. More importantly though, he taught her about her dragon side, how to try and control it, and even try and hide from Yvva. It made sense why she would be have more of a connection to her draconic lineage as she was helped raise by someone of that lineage that also loved her and died trying to protect her. He even said "Go to Demacia, they are you best chance of survival." with his last breaths. All of that to the very end.

2. The new father figure is weak as hell - What do we get instead of dragon dad in this update?!?! That same fucking, no name mage but now who essentially kidnaps her and supposedly raises her (after before trying to sell her as an egg) only to just be killed off instantly. No emotion, no last words, nothing. Just, oh and he died and got a small burial. It doesn't even go into detail on how he raised her, if he helped control her powers, anything of that sort. Hell, it doesn't even mention him tampering with the egg with magic to make her like that, she just came out the way she is naturally, for some reason! There's no investment between the two here. No feelings, relations, nothing. It's just bland. And to go back on point one, this I would even argue makes her try to lean more towards her human side rather than, say, balancing her two lives altogether.

3. Yvva has almost no motivation to kill Shyvana - In the previous lore, Yvva saw what Shyvana was when she hatched, seeing her as an impurity to her bloodline and wanting to be rid of her. This is a motivation! She wanted to kill Shyv because she tainted her lineage, wanted to berid of her to spare the trouble and shame, but even more so wanted to kill her mate for defending what she viewed as a vile creature and running off from them for so long. In this new edition, she just fends off some thieves except the mage, apparently has several children now (which to be fair is actually kind of a neat update since it implies Shyv now has siblings), no mate in the story so he's either dead or just fucked off to who knows where, and just wanted to find Shyvana because she felt her, even though she doesn't really have any motivation to really kill her outright. Hell if anything, it could be that she actually thought her child was alive and wanted to still find her because of a mother's aspect but when she sees what she is then decides to kill her off. But no, it's just "I sense that egg that was stolen. I should go kill it because... reasons!" And even then, she doesn't really play that big a part in the story. She just flies overhead, burns the mage, and shows up again for the fight and dies. No taunting Shyv, no interactions, nothing.

4. The interactions between the Demacians, Shyvana and the final battle/ending is rushed - Back again to the previous story, Shyvana carried Jarvan to a local village and while they were hesitant of her, they still warmly welcomed her and later on she actually knew a peaceful life for a months, only to know her mother was coming and started ravaging towns, having Jarvan get people to safety in Castle Wrenwall, and Jarvan soon convinced Shyvana to stay. As Yvva was about to arrive, Shyvana transformed ready to fight and as her mother arrived, she continued to insult and taunt Shyvana before they clashed. In doing so, it almost felt like Shyvana was ready to lose, reverting back to her human form, only to channel her strength and tear out her mother's heart. She then feels thankful for Jarvan and Demacia for showing strength and giving her the feeling of belonging and offered her service to Jarvan where now she made her home. Here, it's mainly she brings somebody back to the castle already, only then to realize it's Jarvan, who knows how much time passes, similar scenario happens but fight is cut short in description and she instead breaks her mother's neck. And only after that does Jarvan say that she can be a part of his guard, not her offering it to him, nor does she feel any pride or sense of belonging in the story at the end. It's more like "I can stay here? Sure why not, for now." There's not that sense of a mighty battle at all, it just comes and goes. Shyvana doesn't get a feeling of belonging or love the way this story describes it, it's just she can stay if she wants. It is absolutely rushed.

This whole update feels unnecessary. The previous lore was fine as it was. I don't know why Riot decided to change Shyvana like this but being a pretty big fan of her I can safely say that this is terrible for her. I absolutely hate this change. It came out of nowhere, no context as to why this needed to change, and doesn't add anything positive to the story, it just took away what the fans and mains of this champ loved about her in story. I almost want to start a petition to revert the lore back to what it was because I'm not accepting this. This whole update is just dumb for her!
