Mass Moral alignment project?

Hey guys! So I'm a huge fucking nerd for League of Legends lore, and I want to try compiling all of the champions moral alignments and putting them into this thread! Although If I'm being honest, it's kinda hard for me to draw those lines lol. If you wanna help out, just pick a few champions that aren't on the list and give me your opinion on their alignment.

Good

Chaotic: Akali Blitzcrank Ekko Jayce Riven Ryze Skarner Zac

Neutral: Ahri AsheBard Braum Corki Heimerdinger IvernKaisa Janna Karma LeeSin Malphite MasterYi Nami Nunu Orianna Soraka Taliyah Taric Teemo TristanaMonkeyKing

Lawful:Anivia Caitlyn Garen JarvanIV Kayle Kennen Leona Lux Nasus Shen Vayne

Evil

Chaotic: Aatrox Brand Chogath DrMundo Elise Evelynn Hecarim Jhin Jinx Karthus Kayn Khazix Malzahar Singed Pyke Mordekaiser Morgana Nocturne Renekton Shaco Singed Sion Syndra TahmKench Thresh Veigar Vladimir Warwick Zyra Neutral:Gangplank Velkoz

Lawful: Camille

Neutral

Chaotic:Ezreal Kalista Olaf Rumble Sivir Talon Twitch Volibear Zoe

True Neutral:Alistar Fizz Gnar Gragas Fiora Kassadin Kindred Rammus Rengar Sona Amumu Zilean

Lawful:Illaoi Swain Azir

Champions I can't figure out: Annie, Aurelion Sol, Cassiopeia, Darius, Diana, Draven, Galio, Irelia, Jax, Katarina, Kled, Kog Maw, LeBlanc, Lissandra, Maokai, Miss Fortune, Nidalee. Ornn, Pantheon, Poppy, Quinn, Rakan/Xayah, Rek Sai, Sejuani, Shyvana, Trundle, Tryndamere, TF, Udyr, Lucian, Lulu, Urgot, Varus, Viktor, Xerath, Xin Zhao, Yorick, Zed,

NOTES:

-Kinkou Order peeps got lawful good, with the exception of the defector Akali, who I placed in chaotic good

-Most Demacians received lawful good

-Void monsters are actually a bit more confusion, are they chaotic evil or chaotic neutral? Most are just hungry and want to eat, with the exception of Vel'Koz who just wants knowledge and Cho'Gath who explicitly just fucking hates everything

-Noxians were also tricky, as I'm not sure if just being Noxian is enough to make them outright evil. However, I am very confident that 90-ish percent of them are at the very least chaotic, with the exception of Swain who was put into lawful evil.

-Shadow Isles dudes are mostly chaotic evil as are darkin. Yorick tho?

-Varus is confusing, 3 dudes in one body. Realllllly weird.

So I’m also a nerd. And bored (you’d think after 12 years I’d just move closer to my work and not have to deal with these commutes).

Anyway, a minor problem with your project. If you don’t mind my naysaying.

What alignment are you using? Now clearly you’re drawing from D&D, but which edition? The meaning of each alignment has shifted with literally every version of D&D that has been released.

There is also the “Lawful and Chaotic” problem.

What definition are you favoring. Is being lawful about; personal codes, actual laws of the land, or United civilization over diverse nature.

Because law/chaos encompasses all of that and they all don’t really have much to do with each other. And you will get weird situations like Illaoi. Personal code? Definite check. Law of the land? No opinion. Civilization? Completely disagrees, it seems. As she promotes activities that would be harmful for society as a unit so long as it props up the naturally powerful to greater acts.

Ok, I got some questions and disagree with some of them.

Blitzcrank Why do you consider him chaotic? I would picture him more as good neutral, but I would like to read your explanation for the chaotic. Camille I read quite often that people consider her evil, but I don't understand why. She tries to protect the city of progress, she cares for balance. I definitely don't think she is evil, I would put her into neutral instead. Urgot This guy is chaotic evil, hands down. Even a Rioter confirmed that to be his alignment. He wants to throw Zaun into chaos. Twitch Should be considered evil. His new lore states that he is planning the downfall of humanity, he wants to kill every citizen of Zaun and Piltover. If that is not evil, I don't know what is. Viktor This guy I would consider to be chaotic good. He tries to help people, saving the life of people and improve the quality of their life. He just uses questionable methods to do that and is misunderstood.

Mordekaiser I'd put as Lawful Evil because he's very much pro-order...provided he's the one making the rules. Xerath and Veigar Go into Lawful Evil for the same reason. Karthus I would actually say is Neutral. He's not Good because he's turning people undead, but he's not Evil because he thinks he's helping people by turning them undead. Probably Neutral Oblivious.

I'd want to move vayne more neutral than good with her vigilante "justice" also a big nerd so i'll try an help later.

The list is a bit visually confusing. Sorting it by Good, Neutral and Evil, and Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic would be better.

Overall, I'd change the placement of many of the characters simply due to personal preferences. Someone like Akali strikes me as more chaotic neutral than chaotic good, for instance, but you're free to use your interpretation as you wish.

The major changes I'd suggest are:

  1. Shadow Isles would partially be neutral evil, and most undead are usually classified as such. Mordekaiser and Elise are the best examples of this, as is Karthus, since his devotion to death doesn't really make him chaotic.

  2. I'd argue that Jinx, Kayn, Morgana, Veigar and Warwick should be chaotic neutral. You could also add Illaoi to that list.

  3. I have a problem with Aatrox. Namely, neutral evil encompasses pure, nihilistic desire for death (see Pathfinder daemons), whereas chaotic evil is specifically the hedonistic intent to do evil and the derivation of pleasure from doing it. I'm not sure whether or not Aatrox expresses joy from causing suffering - that seems to be Rhaast's thing - but since his character is filled with hatred and suicidalness, you may want to sort him into neutral evil.

All Void creatures except for Vel'Koz should be chaotic evil.

I am not sure about the new story of Riven, but the old story of Riven put her in a neutral position, maybe even true neutral. Simply because she in conflicted in herself and doesn't know what to believe nor what is right, only knowing wrong was done. She favors old Noxian laws and tradition but doesn't understand why the new ones exist and being broken.

That said that is just from old Riven lore.

Is Ahri good? I thought she was like eating people to be human, most likely a neutral character since she neither favors good or evil.

Ashe might be more lawful because she is a leader and must promote stability.

Vayne is chaotic good, she breaks the law to do what she does.

Kindred might be more lawful neutral, she is a death "god". She essentially doesn't care who she kills, if it is your time, it is your time, however she follows that code. That said, true neutral does work as well.

Azir is good I am pretty sure, he tries to rule his people as a benevolent leader.

As for the ones you didn't list,

Annie might be chaotic neutral, she is young so she can't be completely evil but she clearly favors chaos and rule breaking.

Darius is most likely a lawful neutral character, he is a soldier and he obeys orders, even if those orders are evil or good.

Draven is, maybe True neutral? Draaaaaaaven. Leblanc is more neutral evil or chaotic neutral. She is basically the opposite of swain I'd say.

Xayah and Rakan are chaotic good, I only say this because Xayah is best girl and I am biased. That said she is a rebel, and from my understanding, fights for freedom, not slavery. She also wont give her life to strangers, but would most likely die for Rakan. (big trait of good chaotic characters, lack of self-sacrifice)

Poppy is Neutral good, she wants to find the hero (even though it is her) and seek justice. However, she doesn't really seem to favor or disfavor rules.

Zed is most likely neutral evil, he will do whatever but wont just break laws and rules for the sake of it. Seems he favors his own way of life, regardless of order or chaos.

Lucian is similar to Vayne, pretty chaotic good.

Shyvana strikes me as a neutral good character, she is Jarvans friend and follows Jarvan but I have a feeling that she doesn't care about laws, but she isn't going out of her way to break them either.

That's all the ones I got as far as characters I know the best.

Almost every champ in neutral good is really lawful good. they all are pure good, follow the rules and usually work with a government. AHRI is not a good guy. she is a villian. Camille isnt evil at all. Gangplank is no where near lawful good. Twitch is evil not neutral. Vel koz is chaotic evil (void guy who randomly kills or tortures humans). Vayne is neutral or chaotic good. she has no moral stance. think about these. do some rearrangement.

{quoted}

Graves: Lawful Evil (Criminal with a strict sense of honor)

Twisted Fate: Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil (Criminal with a less strict sense of honor)

To talk about my favorite characters in the entire lore, I strongly have to disagree on these two being evil. They go against the law, yes, but they are far from evil (especially after the retcon). They break the law to survive and thrive, but they have no malicious intent ("We're here for your gold, not your heads, so don't nobody try and be a hero." -Graves). They generally steal from people who are corrupt, like Master Henmar in Twisted Fate's short story Double Down, and the super-high-class Piltovans who, as Ekko's comic showed us, can be real pricks who hoard their wealth (Caitlyn is an exception). Not to mention that they are shown to be quite opposed to whatever tyranny Gangplank got up to in Bilgewater, even though they tended to avoid Bilgewater street politics drama and did their own thing.

After Burning Tides, they also seem to be abandoning the Bilgewater drama to start themselves anew, seemingly going off to Piltover. It's not that they're against the good that Miss Fortune is trying to do for the city, but they don't care so much. However, given their personalities and how they saved each other's lives, I think that they would definitely fight for the better side when put in that position. But for now, I'd say that they're neutral (Graves more leaning to lawful neutral, and Twisted Fate to true neutral).

Of course, the moral alignments of everyone can shift as things escalate in the future.

Shen fits better under True Neutral.

He's not Lawful as he doesn't answer to the Ionian Government and he isn't Good as he doesn't seek to further humanity and even actively fights against it if they disrupt the balance.

Hell, even his short story was named "True Neutral". That's got to be confirmation enough.

First of all, I'm not too familiar with alignment charts. Most of what follows below is based on "what feels right" and not definitions of the different categories.

I'd put Warwick in the chaotic good section or at least chaotic neutral, since he hunts criminals while trying to spare innocents. I also would put Bard in the true neutral category. He's not concerned about the well being of others, he just does his job of keeping the universe intact. Even if his actions doom an entire village (as shown in his teaser), he doesn't help them.

For the ones you haven't put in categories, here's where I'd put them:

Annie: Chaotic Neutral (Just looking for somebody to play, will maybe become chaotic evil in the future) Aurelion Sol: Lawful Neutral (although enslaved by Targon, he himself just wants to fly around and create stars) Cassiopeia: Chaotic Neutral (Kills criminals, but has her own ambitions) Darius: Lawful Neutral (He does what has to be done for Noxus) Diana: Neutral Good (Less lawful than Leona, but otherwise the same) Draven: Chaotic Neutral (Essentially just a narcissistic soldier) Galio: Neutral Good (Wants to smash stuff and protect his friends) Graves: Lawful Evil (Criminal with a strict sense of honor) Irelia: Lawful Neutral or True Neutral (Leader of a faction in civil war, trying to help Ionia but simultaneously destroying it) Jax: Chaotic Good (Gathering fighters against the Void, just with unconventional methods) Katarina: Lawful Neutral or True Neutral (Serving the empire, trying to redeem her mistakes) Kled: Chaotic Evil (Murder Hobo) Kog'Maw: Chaotic Neutral (Curious about the world and a bit hungry) LeBlanc: No idea, we just don't know what her goals are Lissandra: Lawful Evil (Keeping the watchers contained, while also having some sinister plans of her own) Maokai: Chaotic Good (Fighting the Shadow Isles in a futile attempt to destroy the curse) Miss Fortune: Lawful Neutral (Not sure, she got her vengeance and now tries to rule Bilgewater as best as she can) Nidalee: Lawful Evil or Neutral Evil (Step in her territory, get killed. Basically Kled, but less drunk) Ornn: True Neutral or Neutral Good (He just doesn't care, but has a soft spot) Pantheon: Lawful Good (Basically Leona with a spear) Poppy: Neutral Good (Saving people, searching for a hero, but accidentally killing everyone she gives the hammer to) Quinn: Lawful Neutral (Just a well coordinated soldier) Rakan: Chaotic Good (Fighting for a good cause) Rek'Sai: Chaotic Neutral (Typical void monster) Sejuani: Lawful Neutral or True Neutral (Leader of her people, ensuring their survival by raiding) Shyvana: Lawful Neutral (Blindly following Jarvan) Trundle: Chaotic Evil (A more sadistic version of Kled) Tryndamere: True Neutral (Quest for vengeance) Twisted Fate: Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil (Criminal with a less strict sense of honor) Udyr: Neutral Good (Protecting the Freljord with a mix of rage and balance) Lucian: Lawful Good or Lawful Neutral (Not sure if he's actively trying to help people, or if it's just unavoidable given he wants to kill Thresh) Lulu: Chaotic Neutral (That tasted purple) Urgot: Lawful Neutral? Chaotic Neutral? Chaotic Good? Lawful Evil? (Urgot is weird. He kills people, but mainly focuses his efforts on chem barons. He wants to give Zaun to the people who can survive in it.) Kai: Lawful Good, Valmar: True Neutral, Varus: Chaotic Evil (I have no idea what that results in, Chaotic Neutral maybe?) Viktor: Chaotic Good (He just wants to help people, although his methods are questionable) Xayah: Neutral Good (Wants to save her people, but doesn't care much about others) Xerath: Chaotic Evil (Wants to conquer the world and is a bit insane) Xin Zhao: Lawful Neutral (Blindly serving Demacia) Yorick: Chaotic Good (Wielding evil powers for a good cause) Zed: Chaotic Neutral (Just wanted to protect Ionia, maybe took it a bit too far)
