People have this fetish of rushing to reveal a face of a character who's meant to stay faceless.
They don't realise that their mask is for all intends and purposes, THEIR FACE. The face we know them as.
Nobody gives a shit who Spiderman looks like under his mask. It can be Peter Parker, or it can be someone else; hell, even Peter Parker himself is redesigned every time a new artist draws him and his depiction across different media change wildly. The idea is, the person behind the mask is basically interchangeable. However, we DO care about Spiderman's outfit and his signature mask design, their morality and themes about heroism, because THAT is what is important about Spiderman. Now, Spiderman isn't a 24/7 masked character and his face does play a role in his characterisation so his real face isn't out of the picture, but this is to demonstrate that the face under the mask is not always important (and in some cases, not important at all).
A masked character who is meant to stay masked should basically never have a face reveal; and face reveal rarely ever works well unless you have a really good reasons for it. Unless you're putting on an interesting twist like Rorschach (who identifies with his mask intimately; hates and treat his own biological face as a mask instead). Or if you have some big story event where the face under the mask has a very good reasons to make people care about. But otherwise, no, a masked character is better off staying masked.
There is a reason why I despise the face reveal of Kakashi at the end of Naruto Shippuden. It was just so bad.
After all, it's obvious that characters who STARTED OUT ALREADY MASKED AND STAYS ON 24/7 is designed without a face underneath in the first place, and obviously their mask would've gone through serious designs to make sure it stands out and be memorable. Why would you both destroy the mystery factor and then give us a face that obviously will never match up to the level of fineness as their mask? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone? More like kill 2 good things with 1 stupid move.
