The new Darkin/Ascended lore opens even more paths to other champions like Diana

They use the power of the moon. That screams "Diana" to me, although at the time this story is happening i doubt Diana will even exist for at least a couple hundred years.

Still, this was a really long story. I hope you'll expand on this rather than keep writing completely new ones that force this one to be rewritten - again.

Yes, the Lunari were probably present during the war against the Void and the Darkin, but Diana isn't an Ascended, she is an Aspect. Aspects are touched by the shadows of a god and given power, Ascended are touched by god, and become like gods. Like the difference between a prophet who can perform miracles, and an archangel.

Didn't the story say they were Vastayans who use the power of the moon? "Vastayan moon-stalkers" I don't see any wings on Diana.
