Karthus short bio. #"Yearning to be one with death itself, --"

Read this three times.

Can he not sound anymore messed up? How do people come to to feel this way? Why? Could he be a depressed sort where in a world of magic undeath was an option?

Can we find real-life examples of someone with similar mind-state as Karthus before he died?

I recall some German named Gunther von Hagens. It may not be accurate. Does pumping chemical into veins of dead bodies, letting it set and dissolving their whole body (and bones) in acid, leaving the plastic behind ... and call it art ... sound good enough? It's called plastination. This is what I recall of him.

I saw the Bodyworks exhibition in Chicago when it visited the Field Museum, and it wasn't nearly as horrific as I expected it to be. Unsurprisingly, given the nature of the process, the bodies tended to look very plastic-y, which distanced them from the truth of what they actually were. As we went round the exhibition, we kept having to remind ourselves that these had once been real people who had (it must be remembered) willingly offered their remains to the artist.

A lot of the thinking that went into the updated lore for Karthus came from historical precedent (I did a lot of research into death and funeral rites for a book I wrote that heavily featured the undead) and the idea that folk from the past often viewed liminal spaces where death and life overlapped as being sacred, a space where - if you could hold yourself at that moment - you would be able see both forward and back with total acuity.

And lots of discussions as to what would be creepy as hell.

Not sure you read the long bio but i did shortly before they took it down but it seems because he lives as a kid in the slums of noxus where people were lucky to live past 8 years old (it was a shitty and disgusting thing) and because he always so many people die including his younger sister he was so facinated by it that just heightended his curiosity if there was a moment where life ends BUT right before death begins

Plastination is pretty damn awesome. Would I call it art? Probably not, but it really presents a better image of the human body than text books do. It is super helpful to organize your studies conceptually after seeing it in person. Only cutting into someone, or a cadaver, does a better job.
