Apparently, you can "fail" a ascension ritual and become the so called "Baccai". A thing which are "who often are twisted and malformed." I wonder if they have future champions that fit into this lore, like evil Egyptian gods such as Seth or Apophis. It would be very interesting.
I'm fairly certain Xerath is a Baccai-- though I might be wrong. Don't quote me on that.
Apophis is just the egyptian devil right. he personified chaos, the opposite of ma'at, and the enemy of ra. afaik apep was always just "the bad guy" and what they would want to "ascend from". very similar to ammit, but ammit is not a god, or ever worshiped in any way. Set has some interesting drama behind him, especially concerning osiris, whom he killed in jealousy. It led to the basic idea around the "book of coming forth by day"or the "book fo the dead", performing the first ever mummification on Osiris, hoping to revive him, but instead just made him the king of Aaru or Egyptian Heaven. It does sound like Azir and Xerath are supposed to be like Osiris and set or something. My favorite egyptian gods are wepwawet and khonsu, neither of which could be what you're suggesting. Khonsu did gamble away 5 days of the calendar to Thoth so that there would be 365 days in a year, beforewhich were 360..iirc anyways. i think it was in order for a certain somewhat to conceive, which then gave birth to 5 of some of the most important and well-known gods. she was cursed by ra and couldn't conceive on any day of the known year. lol what a work-around right. Wepwawet was a wolf deity that looks like a white version of anubis, but older. Probably a god of war, among other things like "opener of the sky" having a relationship with geb, and was basically assimilated with anubis and horus with the deification of osiris in Aaru. Often confused with Anubis, they might as well be the same god now, but nobody knows he exists lol.
