How does Runeterra exist?

One of my biggest issues with the IoW removal, that I haven't seen brought up, is how does Runeterra exist without it? You have Brand that wants to burn everything down, you have Void Champs like Kog and Cho that want to eat absolutely everything, Noxus that wants to rule everything and doesn't have issues waging a huge war...

There are over 100 Supermen/women. When people and things at that kind of power level fight, they level cities, kill thousands of civilians. Riot claims removing the IoW makes it easier to tell stories, but how the hell do they even have a SETTING to tell stories IN?

Noxus wants to rule everyone, but they aren't stupid. A big war could easily turn out bad for them. I mean yeah they are one of the strongest factions, but not invincible(and they suffered some losses during the ionia war, which is still canon,so they are weakened)

Brand probably knows that it is not a good idea to charge into demacia and burn everything down,as you can see in his lore, its not like he is invincible,so he has to be careful.

The same goes for cho'gath and kog'maw who would quickly loose if other champs teamed up against them, with cho'gath most likely being smart enough to remain under the radar and kog'maw at the side of Malzahar.

Even if they ran rampage it wouldn't mean the end of the world,I mean just look at rek'sai who lives in shurima for an extremely long time(it is hinted that she already lived there before azirs reign),yet it didn't affect the world that much.

And yes there will be more conflicts now, that is basically why they removed the IoW,but that doesn't mean the end of the world.

they aren't as super as you think

That's what I was wondering as well. It might be like superhero stories where the super powered heroes overpower the super villains, thus preventing destruction. Who really knows though.

If they're 'keeping each other in line', they're probably still fighting, which means there's still going to be huge amounts of collateral damage. Unless Runeterra is populated solely by champions, nobody's left.

I imagine the champions that are flat out destructive (Brand, Kog'maw etc.) are creating isolated disasters, much like a pack of wolves making their own attacks in the wild. Brand seems to be rather intelligent and is aware that he can't just destroy everything since he's clearly capable of being overtaken as evidenced in his lore. Kog'maw is just hungry and wants to eat things, and likely acts much like Rek'sai in that he kills/eats out of necessity (or territory), not "just cuz." Although given his bottomless stomach, his "necessity" might resemble "just cuz."

The other champions who are more politically aligned (and even those who aren't), I figure they're biding their times, or making (or attempting to make) tactical strikes against their enemies, or are going about their own lives (Karma is a spiritual leader for instance, Gragas is enjoying a nice ale, Udyr is battling inner/outer demons, Braum is busy brushing his and his poros' mustaches etc.).

Other champions are doing their own secretive stuff. Elise is seducing and convincing various people to go and be gobbled up by a giant spider, Veigar is doing his own little evil plans here and there, and so on.

Frankly, the only area of Runeterra that should be in continuous war at the moment is The Freljord. The other city states and their champions can make momentary truces or cease fires for the sake of mutual stability, like Miss Fortune and Gangplank working together at the Battle of Knife Straits.

Of the few champions who would go on rampaging murder sprees with reckless abandon, all of them have either joined the league voluntarily with or without hidden motives, such as Hecarim, or were subdued and placed in the league with the intention of a sort of 'purposeful imprisonment', such as Nocturne. All the other champions probably understand the value of not destroying everything. It would make for kickass gamemode and interesting story development to have these near uncontrollable monstrosities to break free of their chains and wreck havoc.

Because 80% of the champions are busy keeping each other in line. Noxus vs Demacia. Piltover vs Zaun. They're basically their countries nuclear deterrents. No one, not even Noxus, is going to suddenly throw out war unless they have a decisive advantage . About 10% are the wild ones (Brand, Cho'gath), and they're not much of a threat YET. Unless Cho grows to city size or Brand burns down some major location, chances are people just don't know about them yet. And the last 10% just kind of do their own thing. Gnar's having fun, Rengar is hunting Kha who is hunting him, Elise is busy tricking people, etc, etc.

I too wonder how it works, champs fight in even 5v5s, 3v3s, and then there are rivals that have to work together, I mean, how many times have thresh been forced to support lucian or vayne, and whats to stop them from turning on their rivals, as well as what are the matches besides pointless if all champs return to life

Runeterra is a highly magical world

The normal laws of a planet work differently in a world filled with magic...
