Is anyone a little surprised that Kayn is getting a Legendary?

So with Odyssey news going around, I knew we were getting some new skins. Jinx is (yet again) getting one, as is Yasuo, Malphite's getting a pretty nice skin, Sona's finally getting that rumored skin, Ziggs is apparently getting one, and lastly is Kayn.

Now one thing that kind of confused me was that people were saying he was getting a Legendary. When I heard this, I almost dismissed that idea since from the in-game teaser that was leaked it didn't look like that (then again, i haven't really gone back and taken a better analysis of it).

But doing some digging, turns out he is getting a Legendary. Two things:

  1. Why?
  2. WHY?!?!

I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Kayn and I know people have been wanting a skin for him for quite some time now, but...why a Legendary? Two reasons I bring this up.

The first being is we just got a Legendary for Lucian not too long ago. Why are we immediately being treated to another Legendary, I thought those only come around every few months?

The second thing is Kayn is relatively a new-ish champ, only being out for a year or so. Typically, when I think of a champ getting a Legendary I think of champs that have been around at least for a couple of years. Yasuo was basically the youngest champ to get his Legendary at roughly around 3 1/2 years. Yeah, there's no hard rule to say that a champ has to wait X amount of time to receive this level of skin but considering the rhythm of how Legendaries go, it just feels off to me. I dare say it's a bit insulting considering there are still quite a few champs that haven't received a new skin outside of their launch and yet Kayn gets his early like Zoe, except his is like second to top tier quality (or is it third considering the new lower-tier ultimate skins?)

IDK, those are just my two cents. Still excited but really having mixed feelings. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be surprised if most of Kayn's skins are Legendary.

Kayn isn't just 1 singular model, he's 3 models, and each model has it's own voice, it's own VFX, SFX, animations - it's literally 3 skins in one.

If Kayn gets an Epic skin ever. don't expect the forms to be more than just a chroma with a simple model change that's most of the time un-noticeable. Main reason why I really hate his release skin. That and the Rhaast form looks ugly in green.

  2. because Riot wanted to!!

I am in love with this skin and Kayn deserves it and even more skins. So do other champions, but Kayn's other skin is like...really bad.

What Meta says, Kayn's intrinsic nature of having 3 forms limits a lot of his skin potential. I was personally hoping for a Project Skin, but this is fantastic.

Olaf, vladamir, and mundo all got legendary skins only a year after their release. Why is it so far fetched for a popular champ like kayn to do the same?

Moreover since he requires 3 models each with their own vgx and sfx it probably just made more sense to riot to go all out on the skin and make it a legendary.

I think it was a bit much to give him a legendary skin just 1 year after his release. Meanwhile other champions who got released before him are still waiting and will definitely get something with lower quality, it's sad.

Prepare for it, I will spam the boards with salt when Camille gets an underwhelming skin then. ^^

I pretty much agree completely (especially about another skin for Jinx , all nice looking skins but a legendary so soon seems a bit unfair to those that have been waiting longer. Don't get me wrong I think kayn is a great candidate for either an 1820 or even an ultimate BUT not this quickly. I'm also biased because I've been waiting for my 1820 Syndra for a while.

Cause they just had the opportunity to do so? I mean, it's not like he's the first one to get a legendary as his first skin after launch.. Look at Rumble. He had 2 lower quality skins at launch and then nothing (yes for years), but his first post launch skin was a legendary.

It's still a very rare that they do these things though. Most post launch skins have been 975 or 1350, but hey, when they feel they can do something bigger, then they should do it rather then waiting.

Honestly, I feel like Yasuo was put in there as Captain more for the sake of Popularity than Jinx.

Yeah, Jinx is popular, but I think she's the only human they have that's super fun-loving crazy.

Zoe is recent, but she's like, young child with the fun loving.

Lulu would have to be an alien, and she got a skin already a few months ago.

And you know, people will go up in arms if Lux was to get a skin.

Ahem. Money talks. Kayn gets a legendary skin as his first official skin because Riot knows it’ll make them money. It’s the same reason Jinx is getting another emote. This isn’t bitterness, this is reality.

Yeah, I'm on the "Insulted considering there are still quite a few champs that haven't received a new skin outside of their launch" part of the argument. I understood when Riot gave Xayah and Rakan skins so shortly after release-- they're 'the couple' champions and they were Valentines themed skins, whatever, not complaining. But then Zoe got a pool party skin. Alright, I mean, she is still a very new champion with a perfectly cool and unique launch skin, but alright. Now Kayn is getting a legendary, and I'm afraid champs released between Taliyah-Camille's time frame are just being flat out ignored. Aurelion Sol finally JUST got his first skin since launch. Wondering how much longer we have to wait while Riot pumps out content for the newer champs.

Because of the two champions in one it was a given that Kayn would get mega budget skins, just less often. That was my logic at least.
