Headcanon: Death and the Blessed Isles
Death was once the patron spirit/deity of the Blessed Isles. The inhabitants weren't crazed death-seekers, but rather understood that life and death was a cycle which all mortals had to go through, and so did not fear Death. Death could only communicate with those who were near the end of their mortal coil, which meant that he had rarely had any company unless someone was dying or was dead. Death often felt lonely because the spirits of the dead would fade away, leaving him all alone again. What kept him appeased was the fact that denizens of the Blessed Isles prayed to him and celebrated his existence. The Blessed Isles remained peaceful and safe because of Death's presence.
This period of peace would ended when Mordekaiser's skull arrived in the Blessed Isles. Death felt unnerved for the first time when he sensed the Master of Metal's malevolent presence. A clandestine cult was formed around the skull, instigated by a vault warden. Death could only watch in horror as the cult grew around the Iron Revenant.
The schism between the Iron Revenant and the Eternal Hunter's followers turned into a violent religious war, similar to the religious schism which occurred between the Lunari and Solari at Mt. Targon. By the end of the conflict, Mordekaiser's followers controlled the Isles. Death decided to flee, knowing that the Blessed Isles was no longer welcome to him.
When the Ruination of Blessed Isles occurred, Death watched from afar as his former home's destruction was complete. The cycle of life and death was completely twisted by necromancy. The Dead replaced the Living.
Left without a home and people, Death was gradually plunged into a deep depression. With no other choice left, Death took an axe and cut himself in two.
Death's two halves transformed into two distinct beings. The logical, feminine side became Lamb, and the ravenous, masculine side became Wolf. Always together, they would be known as Kindred. From henceforth, Kindred would always on the move, for they did not need a home like Death did. As long as they had each other, they would always be at home.
