instead of them being gated to VGUs? if a champion isnt gonna be updated for at least 2 or 3 years why not give them visual updates if needed? there are plenty of champions like fiddle or udyr that dont seem to be getting work soon and have VERY outdated models or clunky and terrible animations cough udyr cough

The problem is Riot would have to pay to have their models updated for their old kits, and then pay even more to redesign the models for the new kits. It makes more sense to just wait until their kit and model are ready at the same time. Saves time and money.

That's basically what they tested with the Ezreal update, if people would get excited over visual updates with just very minor gameplay changes. And it seems like this was a success, so they will probably continue these. But as far as I know, Fiddlesticks and Udyr are candidates for full VGUs, they need some kit changes, their gameplay is outdated.

Champions that are in their mind for visual updates with just little gameplay updates are stuff like these: Blitzcrank Kennen JarvanIV

They used too. The last one was back in 2015 with things like Miss Fortune, Alistair, Cassio, Kassadin, ect and they basically said people didn't even notice those. So it was more worth it to bundle them with gameplay changes.

But we already get those lol

There really isn't much left they would need to update.
