Poor Jayce

So the new Viktor Bio and story were released and everyone's pretty happy about that. Everyone is also pretty happy to mutually hate on Jayce which I can understand, Jayce is an asshat.

But can we take a moment to look at the fact that the person Jayce regards as his only friend in his own lore callously disregards him in his own? That what Jayce perhaps regards as Viktor being saddened by having to order the death of his friend is more like Viktor ordering the death of a raging barbarian while mourning the destruction?

Maybe it's just me, but I thinks it's pretty sad.

Not really. Viktor and Jayce are both giant metal cocks that deserve each other.

What I find really fascinating is the fact that they are inverses of each other: One is an arrogant asshat that helps people in large part out of obligation while also doing real good in the world, while the other is an actually pretty decent, mellow guy that helps people because he wants to while also doing horrific shit to the people he 'helps'. One man has an ugly mind with pretty actions, while the other has a pretty mind with ugly actions.

It's especially telling that both of their color stories involve children that they help, even though they don't care about the person in question. Viktor is perfectly willing to help the boy with his bully troubles, while Jayce wants the girl gone. Jayce fights to keep her safe, Viktor sends him off to beat the shit out of some other kids.

They're not so different, after all. It's a nice touch, i like it.

I sort've liked that. The lore felt superficial in a lot of respects, and I am ADAMANT that the complaints we (the fanbase) made, destined it to be so. But Jayce coming in and smashing junk with a hammer made me smile. A dismissive: "What a moron" response from Vik, followed by the death command.

I feel like Jayce isn't very sympathetic in either perspective. You really need to look through both stories and recognise him as a socially awkward, instinctual, jerk, to feel sorry for him. He genuinely thought Vik was a friend, in spite of how lousy the two got on. And Vik only barely respects his intelligence, in return. And even then, respect might be pushing it by the end of the story.

His only friend? Is that what you call someone who gets you kicked out of the scientific community just because he thinks you're a maniac who wants to remove free will when all you wanted to do was to ensure that people wouldn't freak the hell out and make choices that might cause untold deaths?

EDIT:

Correction. Is that what you call someone you have kicked out of your scientific community just because he wanted to change something on a design you worked with him on, who genuinely wanted to reduce the potential for human mortality by making it so that workers wouldn't freak the hell out on the job?

Viktor couldn't care any less for Jayce, the worst I can imagine is a small moment of hesitation before ordering his death. I wouldn't call him such a friend though, they had respect for each other at best when they worked together.
