Lamb and Wolf: Teaser Reveal and Speculation

We have a teaser video now. Very interesting, very intriguing.

Watch, then read below.

I think the most interesting part of this teaser isn't Lamb and Wolf themselves, but they way they are presented: As spirits, coming from wood. This is -very - interesting, because of the explicit mention in Maokai's lore.

"Before the Shadow Isles became a land of death, the islands teemed with natural life and beauty. This was never truer than in the isles' sacred forest: a paradise of thriving trees and countless species, both animal and spirit alike. When the king of the Shadow Isles ordered his sorcerers to crack open the barrier separating life and death, the forest served as a well of power the magi drank deeply from."

A sacred forest, before the Shadow Isles were transformed, filled with spirits. These two are clearly spirits, and are tied with Death, as the teaser suggests that they are Death who chopped himself in two. But maybe it's not 'our' version of death. Maybe, before the Shadow Isles became what they are today, they had a different version of Death: A version of death with Pale skin, black hair, and who wielded an axe.

In what ways this ties them exactly to the Shadow Isles, I do not know. But it is very apparent there's a clear link between Lamb and Wolf, and the Shadow Isles -before- they became a land of undeath.

Thoughts? Speculation? Your own interpretation? Post below.

This is the most interesting way of connecting the "Lamb and Wolf" with the Shadow Isles... And here is my theory (Based on this thread):

"Death" and "Life" where 2 beings (maybe Celestials like Bard) that worked together in order to keep the natural cycle of life and death... however, one day the King item 3153 of a kingdom of Runeterra "ordered his sorcerers to crack open the barrier separating life and death"... but what he didn't knew was that Life and Death were actually working together... and HE (and his sorcerers) was the one who separated them.

"Life" was someway "trapped" in the Shadow Isles... and Death was left alone, unable to go back where "Life" was. Due this, the Shadow Islanders became somewhat "Inmortals" since "Death" was unable to go to the Shadow Isles and "take them".

After that, "Death" felt alone without "Life" and decided to split himself in 2 in order to have a friend... and then, he became "Lamb" and "Wolf"

I think the champion's purpose is about balance. This force of nature is sundered as the world discovered ways to become immortalized. (Azir's (Ascendant), Lissandra's (Iceborn) and Mordekaiser's (Undead) lore).

  • There are other forces of nature including Anivia, Maokai, maybe Malphite and Skarner, and who else?
  • There are other artificial forces but they may not defy death: the extra-planar (Fiddlesticks) and constructs (Blitzcrank & Zac).
  • *Then there are undead and ascendants that have denied or surpassed death, and that force of nature becomes out of balance. ...the Harrowing is coming...
  • The Void may have to be considered, too, somehow. The teaser trailer shows purple so I may assume something...

So one may be of Death and the other may be of Afterlife. (death is part of life)

  1. Without Mortality, Lamb consumes Wolf: Everything persists.
  1. Without Immortality, Wolf consumes Lamb: Everything desists.

  • Nasus dog face; new champion dog face.
  • Nasus: "The cycle of life and death continues. --"

So in conclusion:

Vilemaw is love; Vilemaw is Life?

Riot Came up for the concept of Bard back in August or September of 2014. After they finished him as a champion, they knew he'd be a trolly champ that most people despise, thus we shunned him. Knowing how terrible Bard is, Riot created this new champ to take his place. Lore-wise, Elderwood Bard took an axe and split himself in two, becoming the new champion(s) that will be released.

They do remind me of Hypnos and Thanatos children from Night and Darkness

I think it could be a nature spirit like Maokai since they mention an axe being used to split himself in two and the masks and the video have a sort of wood effect I guess. Just my own idea

This proves yet again that league is not a game for little kids

Wolf does sound a bit like maokai if you ask me. Maybe the new champion is also a tree with two critters living in it or something.

Think of Hel from the Game Smite And Nordic Folklore. Two beings in one and both together form the goddess of hell (and death indirectly). You have the Dark Hel who is unforgiving and punish, while you have the light that is carefree and take care of others even in hell. They are the judge, the punisher and the healer for souls.

If Lamb and wolf represent the 'Death' embodiement of League, they probably took a part of that lore for inspiration.

I thought the teaser was pretty cool, I'm currently expecting them to give us the full reveal tomorrow when the PBE is set to be updated next since Patch 5.18 is right around the corner for this week.

This is my personal theory, the man Lamb spoke about was death. I got this from how she said that everyone must meet him, and how they shunned him. When he split himself I believe his body and soul formed two different beings, kind of like the Heartless and Nobodies from kingdom hearts. Lamb being the body, and kind and gentle thing able to reassure someone in doubt. While Wolf is the formation of his magic which is bound to the soul, a mass of chaotic energy that will protect anyone who needs help when in danger. These traits are reflected in their voices, how Wolf sounds very animalistic while Lamb sounds very kind.

I heard Lamb's voice as Cole from Dragon Age Inquisition, I half expected its first line to be "There was once a man who had bees coming out of his mouth."

I think both are different personifications of death.

"There was once a pale man with dark hair who was very lonely."

Hint at being death, often depicted as a pale man dressed in black.

"Why was it lonely?" "All things must meet this man, so they shunned him."

Obviously death now, death is something all living creatures must eventually meet, but everyone tries to run away from or avoid

"Did he chase them all?" "He took an axe, and split himself in two." "So he would always have a friend?" "So he would always have a friend."

What I am seeing here is that death split himself in two out of loneliness, so the personifications wouldn't be Life and Death, but rather two different aspects of death. Think about their names, the wolf and the lamb. One is a common symbol of savagery and ill intent, while the other is a symbol of peace and innocence. My guess is the wolf represents those who died in violent or savage ways. and the lamb represents those who die peacefully such as old age or without regret

That is intriguing. But I don't think the axe is going to play a major part in the character, it was not "his" axe but rather just "an" axe.
