As much as it looks amazing (well done there!), the skin should’ve been used as part of the VS event with Diana as Lunar Eclipse vs Solar Eclipse.
With this skin coming out, this means that it’s a high chance that Leona and Diana won’t be the next candidates of a VS event which kinda sucks because I would’ve love to see the cool theme they had which could’ve been this.
But nevertheless it looks real nice 👌🏽
Well. Leona and Diana already had a vs event.
Also, in lore they’re not really opposed to each other anymore. So what would the event be about?
Leona: I want us to work together and talk! Diana: And I want to learn things! Both: Grrrr.

I honestly share your view, also, lunar eclipse is indeed less polished than solar eclipse right now.
If I was riot I would honestly merge the two skins! Elementalist lux has so many variants, all accessible in game.
Solar and lunar eclipse Leona should be a single skin and you switch from one to the other every time you die or every 10 assistsyou take. This would be a new original mechanic that would allow it to be on the same level of other legendary skins.
If they do the same to Diana and give her both lunar and solar eclipse, too... It would be literally amazing and I don't even play Diana. It would make an awesome VS event. (This would also mean two champions instead of one get a legendary and riot makes more money because they would both be full price)

According to the pbe boards they already have other plans for the next vs event.
So either way it didn't take away from the next event in any way. All this means is that they can't do an eclipse themed vS event in the future. It's still possible to do a vs event.
VS events are for two opposing parties that have conflict with each other in their official lore. Diana and Leona are not enemies. Read the "new" lore. New is in quotation marks because this lore has been since 2016.
