Un-Ret-con the League!

Ok, so some patches ago you guys Ret-conned the League of Legends out of the League of Legends. What were you thinking?!? Now the game has as much lore as Super Smash Bros, backstories for single characters, but no reason why they're doing what they're doing.

First of all, what are the champions doing? Coming back to life after dying to protect a rock? Teaming up with hated rivals and people they would naturally never work with?

A brief explanation of what the lore was like before the dreaded ret-con: Once upon a time in the world of Runeterra, the devastating Rune Wars occurred. Powerful mages known as summoners utilized things called World Runes to fight eachother. Unfortunately for Runeterra, a lot of hate was unleashed upon the land and it was really bad for the inhabitants, the environment, and everything. After the fifth Rune War, a group of summoners was sick of this chaos and founded Valoran's Institute of War, better known as the League of Legends. Kingdoms, Empires, and City-States liked this plan so their soldiers wouldn't keep dying. The plan was that summoners would establish a magical connection with people (and creatures) of great power and have them perform special battles. If death upon the battlefield occurred, no problem, the summoners would keep them from fully perishing and do the tedious process of returning them to the battlefield. The champions that joined the institute went on certain reasons. Warriors such as Garen and Darius joined because they naturally fought in wars and still serve their respective homelands by continuing to do so. Brand and Nocturne are destructive creatures that were enslaved by the Institute to keep them in check. Amumu just wants to find some friends.

Even the newer champions can still match with the old lore. Poppy wants to find the fabled hero of Demacia and what better place to look than the League of Legends. Kindred is the physical manifestation of death that the summoners will often call upon because the fields of justice are chock full of death. Aurelion Sol wants to wage war upon the Targonians, despite being a creater of universes, he doesn't have godly powers and, as such, must battle by the Targonian's terms. Taliyah wants Azir out of Shurima and where else to solve this dispute than in the Institute.

It wouldn't break the lore to return to Institute, in fact, it would mend it. Because many of the champions would require the Institute for reasons, Zilean has a magical disease known as Chronodisplasia that only the powerful magic of the summoners can tend to. As I mentioned before, Brand is an elemental force of destruction that nobody in Valoran wants loose because he's "Ready to set the world on fire".

I could go on forever (and it won't make a difference because you guys never listen to us anyway) but I've made my point. If anyone wants to argue that the lore of League of Legends should remain a broken mess, go die.

Edit: Oh good grief, what is wrong with you people. You like the lore in pieces? Fine, because with people like you in the community, that's never going to change.

The retcon didn't happen "some patches" ago, it happened almost two years ago. I personally like the direction narrative is taking and despite the inconstant cadence of delivery, most of the work they release has been better than anything that was pre retcon.

That doesn't make any sense. First of all,the Targonians have control over Aurelion. Sure their control isn't as strong as it used to be,but if they see him openly joinging the league to find a way to free himself from them, they would surely force him to stop that or start killing his suns if he doesn't obey(and thats the least thing Aurelion wants to happen). Secondly Aurelion could simply threat the summoners into aiding him,I mean he can destroy the whole planet if he wished to do so,so I doubt that the league would be able to say "no" under these circumstances....

Thats the big problem. The champions storys are supposed to continue eventually,so solving them via League-ex-machina isn't an interesting way to solve the problem. And Brand being imprisoned pretty much ruins every kind of story potential for him, since he can't do anything in there.

Ryze is preventing the runewars in the new lore.

Please, he isnt that strong: In the old lore he was defeated by Lux, Garen and a random summoner... And in the new lore he was "defeated" by Nasus and Renekton.

Does this guy want to also give us or perhaps just me his personal review of the last 4 to 5 major lore updates. I think everyone from the wider community to Riot employees specifically would be so god damn eger to read that! No?
