@Riot: Just because reception to custom announcers is mixed does not mean you shouldn't do more

I guarantee that if you make a Kled or Draven custom announcer that people will be throwing their cheque books at you.

You need to devote more resources into making purchasable custom announcers a reality.

I can see it now...

Double Kill Draven "Double Kill! Thanks for keeping my fans entertained." Legendary Draven "Almost as good as Draven."

If I ever see a Draven announcer for an event, I'll be jumping into my settings faster than the flash to turn it off.

Though I wouldn't be against having certain champs as announcers.

Most chill announcer ever

What is this archaic "cheque book" you speak of? Do you keep checklists in it?

But no lie, I would jump on certain announcers. Kled is a good one. So would be Lissandra, Zoe, or Swain. Hell, I'd even take Gnar, just to see how goofy they could make it.

But for the love of all that is holy and sacred in this world, they need to NEVER EVER EVER EVER do the eSports commentators again. That was like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

I thought the custom champion voices, at first, was idea gold. If I wasn't so pissed off at the match quality currently, I would buy my favorite champions announcements.

Then I thought it through more... that may detract from the game. Like you're playing your favorite champ and he/she/it is announcing the game as well. It doesn't actually make sense- and I feel like it doesn't make sense from a story standpoint either. I don't know much about lore, or how the field of justice or whatever, works- but I don't think players on the field should be announcers.

I also don't like real life in my video games. We play videos games to escape our world and have fun, like reading a book. Its why non-fiction sucks, I don't want to read about things I could actually do! LAME. I don't want to have real announcers in my games, I don't want that connection breaking up my game immersion.

It seems like... they want us to feel like we're in the lcs or something, or to somehow link our experiences to encourage us subconsciously to watch the lcs---- lol, maybe that is a stretch... but maybe not.

Even if you do like the voices and the jokes- I don't want to hear the same jokes a bazillion times. Just solely from the standpoint of repetition, the new announcers were annoying.

Beyond that, the announcer voice in the game isn't the same thing as a play by play, shoutcaster- whatever. The in-game announcer has one job. To announce game activity in a precise, accurate manner. The game announcer is NOT for entertainment, its for awareness. Its only stating things that have actually happened, nothing else. There is a reason for this, and I think what threw me off the most with the new voices was they were no longer strictly doing that.

As someone who strongly dislikes the Pyke announcer to the point that I disabled it, I completely agree. Would love to see all sorts of other custom announcers!

All of these.

I don't get it honestly. They already made the packs and the technology to play them ingame. What reason do they have for not selling them? Most of the cost is already paid.

Automated Riven6/8/2018, 7:31:53 PM1 votes

The best part is, there is literally no downside. They are already made, so it doesn't cost investment to make. They have no obligation to make more. They can simply add a 520 RP price tag and collect the moneys.

Zilean annoucer XD

P0IS0N IVY6/8/2018, 8:10:00 PM1 votes

I can guarantee that I will not be throwing my wallet if there were a Kled or Draven announcer LOL. I wouldn't mind if Riot implemented them tho. The only one I had to disable without question was the Phreak/Kobe one.

But I definitely would go for Zyra Zyra or Elise Elise or Eve Evelynn announcers.

Imagine old maokai voice as an announcer, holy s!#@.

Tomoe Gozen6/8/2018, 12:44:04 PM1 votes

They've already answered this question, OP. Currently League wasn't set up to support this kind of a product and regional caster announcers (and Pyke/GP on ARAM) were basically tests for looking into the "market". So they're currently looking into if this is worth the investment to make (maybe as loot/store/achievement rewards) and if it is, what kind of announcers are we interested in.

As you can see, some people in this thread almost immediately dismiss this idea but regardless, making this an option instead of being forced into is always a better idea. If this becomes a product for us, it's likely going to have its own tab like Emotes (or even be situated there as a drop down menu from owned announcers) so it wouldn't make sense to have buttons to disable these in the options menu anymore.

I haven't liked the ones that they have done so far other than the butcher bridge one BUT I don't think they should stop trying them out. If they can incorporate a way to test them prior to purchasing that would be good. More customization is good.

I dont play him much, but his voice... well... Turns me on.
