He's supposed to be, in my eyes, an adventurous character, like young Indiana Jones
Instead he's turned into Small Jayce, and is an unlikable asshole, but less heroic and more destructive

There's a lot of potential in his lore since he's the way he is for reasons, not just because. With Zoe, she was just always like that and now her aspect mentality encourages her erratic behaviour. With Jayce...well I don't think it's ever explained. But with Ez, he's got a lot of problems in his background and psychological issues from growing up. What he is makes sense. Think of him as teenage Indiana with more personal problems, Mommy and Daddy issues, and extreme lack of maturity. When he reaches his 30s, after getting in lots of trouble and going through more personal troubles such as seeing the true consequences of his actions (like getting severely injured or losing a loved one), he'd probably be left with his adventurous attitude minus the recklessness. If Riot is bold enough, I think they can take the character far with development and growth. Probably won't, but we can hope.
I do feel there is a bit of trouble with the execution of it as his voiceover seems a bit too obnoxious and out of character from his lore even (not his new story though).

As an Ezreal enthusiast, I definitely agree that he's much more arrogant than I believe he should be. Even with all of the trauma and personal issues he's had I feel like he would be more closed off as a result of these things rather than being rude.
But psychology is a complicated subject to begin with so I'm willing to suspend my disbelief and see what direction he'll take in the future.

I've always liked Ezreal in concept, but felt he always fell short of realizing the potential of his young explorer archetype. I love new Ezreal, mostly because it addresses some of the issues I had with old Ezreal - namely that he was just too good at everything to be a compelling or interesting character.
He was always a little arrogant, but it never reached Jayce levels of "clear character flaw," so he never really felt believable. Otherwise, he was the perfect guy. Good-looking, highly intelligent, athletic, cool, with an awesome magical gauntlet. New Ezreal seems like they were aware of the issue, and are writing him much more like a young, naive screw-up who, while talented and everything, also regularly makes silly mistakes (Forgetting to bring food during his spelunking? Bringing a single rope that he doesn't even know the length of? Carelessly leaving that artifact where civilians could touch it?), gets too wrapped up in himself to think about other people, leaps before looking, and tries way too hard to make himself look cool, only to come across as a huge dork. Instead of playing the "perfect and untouchable flawless genius" character type straight as they did with old Ezreal, they're deconstructing it and even making fun of it to an extent. I find much more compelling, especially with the addition of him wanting to be cool so that his parents come back to him giving it a sad edge. He's meant to come off as a little obnoxious, because he's trying too hard to impress.
He is a greatly flawed kid, and I love it. He's reckless, self-absorbed, and dishonest, and I can get behind that. He's a prodigal teenager who didn't have a strong authority figure in his life, and his role models were a bunch of devil-may-care explorers. His reputation and what other people think of him is all he really has to define himself. He has lots of room to grow and improve, and with clear character flaws this time it's easier for Riot to use him in other stories, so that he can have compelling conflicts and grow as a person. I look forward to seeing them explore the emotions that he's most definitely repressing in favor of his facade. Hopefully Riot comes through.

I've always seen Ezrael this way... He's from Piltover: Land of pricks. Ofc he has an ego, but he's not a terrible person. I like how he's aware.
For Lux, I see him as an adventurer whose fallen in love with her from his travels to Demacia, but he hasn't actually met her. lol
