Welcome back to my poll. I hope everyone enjoyed the Game Awards yesterday, I did get baited by Riot. I waited for the first Riot Forge game, they announced it, I went to sleep. Then they announced the second game...

#####A Clash of Titans

Today, we have two of the epic, long stories of the year. Both feature multiple champs, but only one of them will be victorious...

In the first story, Silence for the Damned, we witness the arrival of Udyr at the Winter's Claw camp, and how they summon the Ursine. In the second story, Child of Zaun, Vi is sent back into the Sump to investigate trouble stirring up. She meets the Dreadnought.

Silence of the Damned for sure.

An astounding piece that captures a visceral, eldritch horror we don't often seen in such a grounded, grossly realistic and horrific way. It adds a primal, savage element to the Freljord that I feel isn't as extensibly captured in other areas of the Freljord or the rest of Runeterra. It also does a lot to characterize Udyr and give him a lot of nuance, tragedy and complexity, as well as showing Sejuani being a bad arse.

Child of Zaun is fantastic as well in many ways, but I feel like there's two points of negativity to Child of Zaun, mainly in its handling of Caitlyn, which I feel is a bit off, and the actual fight with Urgot, which is sorely lacking in detail for what you'd expect; even though the fight isn't the main component of the story I feel that the way it was executed does leave a lot to be desired.

Silence for the Damned doesn't have the same issues, and in my opinion is one of the greatest pieces of story content that exists for League of Legends period.

Silenced for the Damn and Child of Zaun both have their weaknesses and strengths.

I knew Eldritch Volibear was going to prove problematic when it came to his VGU, I see it as a weakness because the story set up something that potentially cannot be executed. I'm hoping to some effect it is maintained in the VGU, as an Eldritch version of Volibear does make sense in the context of the Ursine.

As many have pointed out, Child of Zaun, would have been closer to perfect had the fight between Vi Caitlyn & Urgot been described in greater length or detail.

The strengths of both stories however comes from their awesome characterization of Udyr and Vi respectively.

I found the developments in Zaun to be more interesting

Odin fucking killed it.. Child of Zaun was good but not on the same level with SftD :)

Damn, I really loved Silence, but Child of Zaun was my favourite story of the year... and that's not just cause of recency bias.

I do love how you you arranged this so each vote is somewhat close (or rather, the stories are of similar caliber). Otherwise we’d have these two, along with The Echoes Left Behind and maybe Turmoil, as the final four more or less unquestionably.
