Kayn and Rhaast Lore Progression/Skin Idea

The lore says that either Kayn or Rhaast must win, but I decided to explore another direction.

Rhaast successfully takes over Kayn’s body, but is surprised that Kayn didn’t die like he’d assumed. He figures out the two switched places so that Kayn’s now trapped in the scythe, but figures “better him than me.”

After reveling in his freedom for a while, Rhaast realizes that he’s essentially done the same thing to Kayn that Targon’s done to him. It’s that comparison that makes him uncomfortable. How can he justify hating Targon if he commits the same atrocity they did? Killing’s one thing, he’d have absolutely no issue if Kayn had just died in the bodystealing process. But sealing him in a weapon hits a bit close to home.

So Rhaast decides out of a combination of spite and pride that he won’t do that.

He’s not the parasite Targon tried to make him. He’s not the kind of coward who’d torture another person just to give himself a break. He’s an Ascended, and it’s about time he started acting like one.

He says he’ll return Kayn’s body on the caveat that Kayn stops trying to conquer what’s left of Rhaast’s. Kayn agrees because being able to move again sounds really great right now. They switch back and work out an arrangement where Rhaast can use Kayn’s body when the situation calls for excessive violence.

Benefits: -Kayn gets the power of a Darkin weapon without the risk of Grand Theft Person -Rhaast gets at least part-time independent movement -Both get a lesson in humility: Kayn realizes he’s not invincible, Rhaast realizes he failed to conduct himself as an Ascended should -Fits the theme of “balance” in an extremely unconventional way

The two would still snark at each other of course, but without the underlying threats from either end.

The player choosing the Shadow Assassin or Slayer route wouldn’t reflect one permanently taking over the other, but a temporary change based on whose skillset is best for the situation they’re in.

Now if this is too far-fetched for lore progression, it would still work as a skin since those take place outside the main canon.

From what I remember what I've heard a bit ago is that Rhaast is gonna win no matter what and Shadow Assassin is just a gameplay mechanic. You can't stop a Darkin from fully corrupting you can only delay it.
