Why wasn't the Varus' Darkin separated into two weapons, leaving Varus with just corruption?

There was a way to connect Varus to Darkin without having to change much. Let's pretend for now that Varus is the human with wife and son who lost them and in desperate attempt to gain power to avenge them, he harnessed the power of Darkin he was protecting and that the Darkin in question is called hypothetically Paallas.

#Varus

Let's say Paallas was so powerful it was impossible to fully seal him into single weapon like Aatrox was sealed into a sword and Rhaast into a scythe. So part of his power, to weaken him, was taken away from him and sealed into a quiver that corrupts the arrows held within, while the Paallas' mind was sealed into a bow that corrupts the arrows fired from it. These two weapons would be held from each other.

While many will think Varus' bow is too iconic to be left out of it, I believe his bow being part of his original self (his own hand-made bow or bow he planned to give to his now dead son) would emphasise his human half and this my suggestion wouldn't work If he held the Darkin Bow.

So the point would be Varus would carry the Darkin Quiver. This means he doesn't communicate with Paallas and isn't affected by him so strongly, so:

  • Varus' kit wouldn't have to change much (he'd still use Darkin Arrows corrupted by being held in the Darkin Quiver)
  • Varus' voiceover wouldn't have to change much (his motives are still the same and he still accepted certain corrupton)
  • The corruption plot is untouched, as Varus is only being corrupted by the Darkin power, without being direclty possesed by Paallas
  • No voiceover addition needed as Varus does not communicate with Paallas

This also opens space where the Art team could satisfy their brainstorm on new champion rather than butchering the current one, preventing the shitstorm Boards go through right now.

#Paallas

The Darkin Bow would be hidden in a temple that should've been guarded like the Varus' one. Lineage around the Pit until Varus did manage to keep a guard there, preventing the power from leaking. But lineage around the Temple would go mad and extinct due to Paallas' stronger presence, leaving the Temple unguarded, having the power leak from the bow, until Valmar and Kai came, they surrender to the power trying to save theirself, Paallas merges them and posseses them and rises with his bow.

Now the story of Valmar and Kai is practically untouched, the coincidence that this both happens in Ionia makes sense because while the bow and the quiver should've been held separated, the ones who sealed them would want them within their jurisdiction and check, the only coincidence would be Varus corruption and Paallas return happening approximately at the same time. And this would give Pallas additional motivation to find Varus and take the quiver, so that Varus is connected to the world via the eternal hunt where Paallas hunts Varus and Varus hunts Paallas.

Additionally, it would be like Kayn and Rhaast fight, but spiced up by it happening in two bodies.

#Future of Darkin

Additionally, we would have or could have this way:

  • Darkin fully consuming the host (Aatrox)
  • Darkin having choice of consuming or being consumed (Rhaast)
  • Darkin being consumed/being used only as form of corruption (Varus)
  • Darkin both consuming the host (controlling the body) and being consumed by the host (the mind fights back) (Paallas, Valmar, Kai)
  • Darkin in hands of someone strong-willed who does not wish to kill the Darkin but does not succumb to it, whom the Darkin starts to appreciate in Stockholm Syndrome style, creating a non-transform champion combining their power and Darkin -> think of Kayne, but half kit is induced by the user, half is induced by the Darkin and they don't fight for control (unknown Darkin)
  • Imposer Darkin, Darkin that originally consumed the host but the host was Mage that saved their mind and later destroyed the Darkin's, a human controlling Darkin vessel that would seek to infiltrate the Darkin and destroy them (unknown Darkin)
