After two, almost three years... Varus has yet to get his promised VO update. What's the deal Riot Games?

Yet for those of you who don't know, Lucian received a VO update with Senna's release.. and it wasn't even a major lore change like it was for Varus. How odd.

Sidenote: that lore change should have never happened. I don't care why you think it was fine, or a good thing for the lore, or why it suits him better (spoiler it doesn't). Many of us Varus mains really liked his old lore, and for me, it was the main reason he was my favorite champion for so long (not anymore btw). I still can't believe Riot Games got rid of it.

But I digress, can we just finally get Varus' VO update? That way he can stop sounding like a blabbering idiot on Summoner's Rift.

Like he always says, "Beware a man with nothing to lose!" That's a big old "HA!" from me. I literally cannot even take this champion seriously anymore in his current state.

Dear high ground moralists: my disdain for current lore Varus has nothing to do with him being gay or any of that shit. This is simply my thoughts and feelings because of Riot Games making an extremely questionable change (retcon) to one of the few champions that already had a clear sexual orientation (he had a wife and son). There were plenty of other champions to have done this with who are ambiguous, or better yet, make a new champion with this idea. That's all.

Editor's note: For those of you who might be wondering who my favorite champion is now, it's Lucian. Mostly because they have (had?) a very similar lore about vengeance, but unlike Varus, Lucian wasn't (or hasn't been yet) retconned by Riot Games.

MissFortune was said to eventually get one too. Neither one of them were high priority. So they will happen when they happen.

The lore of Varus, you know, the shuriman dude who lost his family during the attack of an enemy army because he was defending something important, does not contradict the VO of old Varus, the ionian dude who lost his family during the attack of an enemy army because he was defending something important.

As you said, Valamar and Kai have zero references in game because you are not playing as them, they are not the shuriman dude called Varus, in game you are hearing Varus, the shuriman, the fallen ascended, the darkin.

The lore of New Varus and Old Varus its THE SAME, just remplace Ionia with Shurima and Noxus with Icathia/Void. The 2 random ionians of the new lore are as relevant as the random dude who is being controled by Aatrox... But you dont hear that random dude in game, Do you want the VO of Aatrox to be updated to include that random dude as well?

I'm saying they should have already updated his VO to reflect his current lore, and then do a small VO update like they did with Lucian, but instead to Darkin Varus when his sister is released. If they care so much about the lore and the universe of their game, then this is a glaring issue.

Also, are you really trying to tell me the Darkin, a race who is no doubt the most boring we've seen so far in League of Legends, who are full of edginess, and pretty much completely devoid of all personality... have actual feelings? That's adorable. Let's be clear, Darkin Varus just wants power.

And lastly, so what you're saying about Valmar and Kai is that they are basically useless and deserve no recognition in the game? It's all about the no personality power hungry Darkin Varus? You do realize those two hunters were a big part of the whole lore update to Darkin Varus... so much so that Riot Games made a pretty good music video about them, and comic strips featuring lots of dialogue between Darkin Varus, Kai and Valmar.

See myself and many others, much prefer the old human Varus; the tale of the anti-hero; a man (not some god) who sacrificed everything to protect the sacred temple and do his duty which he thought was the greater good against a massive onslaught of Noxians. He then fell into sorrow and grief at the sight of his slain son and ravaged wife... eventually leading to vengeance. He decided to consume the vile power within the Pit of Pallas, granting him the strength necessary to exact revenge on those who killed his wife and son. This simultaneously putting his own life in mortal danger as the corruption slowly consumes his very flesh, but he pushes ever onward, bound and determined to make those pay for what they did.

Maybe... just MAYBE, they are waiting for the release of a major character that is big part of Varus story (the sister) in order to update his VO....

We KNOW that the Darkin Sister will be a champion and she is an important character in the lore of Varus... it would be weird if Riot updates him before her release and leaves them without interactions because of that.

He has both the old lore and the new lore rolled into one champion, and yes he needs an update but the lore itself if alright

Varus is a second class citizen in this game, just like many other champions he simply doesn't matter.

Only thing that matters for Riot is their band skins.

Varus old lore was generic and boring. Worst of all he wasn't even sympathetic, he chose duty over family and then whined like a little bitch when his family died (shocker!). I appreciate the lore change, and I do prefer the two hunters soul bound fighting a moral battle within one body much more than his old lore. Even if they hadn't gone this route I am very glad they moved away from the -lets his family die and then regrets it- route.

His story change deepened my belief that political correctness is shit. My dear high-level moralists would call me a racist, but we're only human. I don't understand complicated things. "I had a bad experience because of the political pressure of gay people, so I hate homosexuality." It's really simple. Disclaimer:The opinion of this comment is fictitious.

If Varus had the old lore written only in better version then the human would be Varus and darkin could have double A name. What a shame that he doesn't have double A name...

I really wonder why I got downvoted for stating that darkins were more interesting as otherworldly creatures than fallen Egyptian sublevel gods. With them as aliens we get more diversity, we can expect more and greater things than from something that was made to fit the plot of runeterra. This way, as darkins are now, they got their lore potential gutted. We wont get otherworldly kingdom with its army, nor whats going on in otherworldly realm nor fraction specialized against otherworldly darkins nor anything else related to otherworldly realm... You may argue: "But we got ascended." But they could be there even without darkins.
