Reasons why I think Dr. Mundo deserves the 2020 VGU spot the most

While every champion in the poll has solid reasons to be there, I think Dr. Mundo is in most dire need of this update and I want to explain here why I think so.

  • The Visuals

Mundo has probably the worst model of every champion in league of legends now, we shouldn't allow something that looks like this to haunt the rift any longer.

  • The Splash Art

I mean, come on.... Even every other champion on the poll has a way better splash art than Dr. Mundo. Just look at it: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/PlHzkfvNbP4/hqdefault.jpg

It still even shows the old, retconned version of Zaun for crying out loud!   • Thematical Potential

Of course, opinions vary here. For me, the gruesome yet hilarious serial killer is more appealing thematically for me than a half dragon or any of the other archetypes represented in the poll. Additionally, Zaun and Piltover are my favourite regions, so because of bias I will obviously prefer a thematic coming from Zaun.

  • Gameplay Improvements

From all the champions in the vote, I think Dr. Mundo actually needs the most work when it comes to his kit. Except for his iconic cleavers, his entire kit is basically built around several different stat steroids. His passive is literally just advanced health regen. His W is a glorified sunfire cape with tenacity bonus. His E an auto reset, with double stat steroid (AD and MR). Finally his ult, which is also basically an extreme health regen steroid. No kit should have so many passive effects, he needs actual mechanics to work with.

  • Skin Potential

I know, some people didn't like it, but I loved that they changed Crimson Akali from a red chroma to an Infernal skin. Dr. Mundo has the same potential with his Toxic Dr. Mundo skin, I hope that this gets reimagined as a Chemtech skin.

  • Lore Isolation

From all the champions in the vote, Fiddlesticks and Dr. Mundo are the most isolated when it comes to lore. Shyvana is well bound in into the lore with her relationship with Jarvan IV and the whole story about xenophobia in Demacia. Nocturne is part of a demon race and has ties to Demacia as well with his short story. Volibear is now a Freljordian demigod with well defined relationship to his brother Ornn.

Just Fiddlesticks has no ties whatsoever with any champion, we got a short story with random people instead. But we know his background (he got murdered and resurrected as a cursed scarecrow). Dr. Mundo has met Ekko in the lore, but that's it. We don't know what he is, where he came from, almost nothing except he got researched by some scientists which messed up his understanding of medicine.

I think Dr. Mundo has great potential to get tied with another champion, Evelynn. I made an own thread about it: Dr. Mundo: Should he embrace the agony?

  • Lighthearted/Serious quota

The next VGU we get is Mordekaiser, then Pantheon. Both champions are pretty serious in their thematic and Riot stated that they want to avoid always going in one direction, they want to mix in some lighthearted designs here and there. From all the champions in the vote, Dr. Mundo with his silly nature is the most "lighthearted" champion in the poll. I would even say the only lighthearted choice.... every other one on that list is god damn edgy.

Please, guys, vote for the doctor in this poll. We have waited for his update way too long already, don't give Riot another reason to postpone it.

I would agree whole heartedly, but I think voting for Mundo is a waste. In their polls they gave a little insight as to how they'd change each of these champions and for Mundo they said they'd keep his insane health regen, bruiser playstyle and his cleavers - basically the things that have made him toxic in the past and cause him to be permanently week due to the lack of counter play in his kit. (He's either so tanky he runs at you and murders your entire team whilst regening any of the damage he manages to deal to you or he runs in and does absolutely nothing).

In general I kinda feel like every champ on the poll has some things that speak for them. I mean Mundo has the worst model(I'd argue that the worst splash art is Volibears though) and his kit is probably the most basic one(with 2 of his skills being probably among the lamest skills in the whole game) however the other 4 also have their own reasons for an update: Fiddlesticks has probably the most potential for a surprising reimagination, as his current lore will likely be retconned entirely and could end up being replaced by something entirely new. His model and skills are pretty outdated too, but I'd say they still work pretty good.

Shyvana has a huge disconnect between her visuals and her lore, as she hides her true nature in her lore and is part of the demacian elite, which her visuals don't convey at all(granted Volibear also has a big disconnect between his design in the game and the lore, but I feel like his current design could be seen as one of his forms throughout the ages). Her dragon form could also be made better.

Nocturne I feel has the most potential when it comes to his gameplay, because while his design looks cool, his gameplay barely plays into him being a living nightmare(besides his ultimate), that makes your worst fears manifest(as he just stabs you).

Volibear hast the most promising lore for a VGU,as his lore makes him out to be an eldritch demigod. The only downside I see for this is that we likely know already what to expect from his VGU,so he doesn't offer the same surprise factor as Fiddle and Shyvana would.

Personally, I think that Fiddlesticks and Nocturne have the most potential out of the available champions,followed by Shyvana , then Volibear and lastly DrMundo,who has to most boring kit potential out of all the champions.

Noc & Fiddle have so much to go off to make their kits outstanding, Shyvana is a half dragon, Voli is a bear God of Thunder, while Mundo , huh, has a cleaver and durability . . .

I picked Mundo because his kit has absolutely nothing interesting or unique about it.

His Passive is literally just warmogs. His Q is a skillshot that slows and is a tank ability so it deals ridiculous damage with no scaling. His W is a toggle AoE around him that gives him some tenacity and deals a bit of damage. That's it. His E is just an AA reset with absurd damage scaling off his HP and has a passive that gives him MR whenever he uses anything in his kit basically. His R is literally a button that heals him over time and makes him run a bit faster. That's it.

Look, I'm not saying he needs to be Flashy and be able to do LC$ big plays but it's the fact that the champion has absolutely nothing interesting or unique about him, his visual design is terrible and outdated and his lore is just pretty lame and random.

At least the other champions that are on that list have some stuff or mechanic that makes them interesting despite them being simple as well.

Dr. Mundo is/was the closest thing to a 'main' when I first started League. With him, Cho'gath and Morde being the last of my old mains who need reworks. But considering that Dr. Mundo doesn't have the most cohesive nor even a particularly interesting thematic, I cant bring myself to care for the prospects of his rework especially when compared to others. Like I'm not that interested in Fid, Nocturne & Shyvana's gameplay and playstyle in the slightest, probably wouldn't even pick them up post-reworking. But despite their thematic needs to be better represented, their core fantasy has/will have much more resonance than whatever Dr. Mundo's is meant to be.

That I would lean much, much, much further into seeing the other's rework get greenlit more than the one champion I used to adore, isnt that weird? I still voted for him.
