Retcon-compatible Summoner headcanon

Awful title, I know, but hear me out. This isn't so much retcon-compatible as it is... making the retcon unnecessary? Idk.

I'm in a little bit of a minority, I think, since I saw the retcon announcement and I was just like "well... I can understand that, I guess." Like, it had been kind of confusing me for a while how the hell people like Caitlyn or Swain or hell, even Heimerdinger could manage to have jobs/armies/lives in general when they're being used as champions all the time. Garen makes sense, because while he's certainly important, he's not irreplaceable, and going to the League would actually be part of his duties; Fiddlesticks makes sense, because they don't want him just wandering around; most of the criminal element makes sense, because they have nowhere else to go after a point. But, again, Swain? Aren't you supposed to be, you know... commanding an army or something? Yes, Vayne, there are an awful lot of terrible things in the League, but wouldn't chasing down terrible things that don't respawn be a better idea? At first I just figured well, if the Summoners can mess around with the rest of the laws of physics, they're probably just messing around with time too.

So. The Headcanon Itself.

The champions used in League matches are not the champions themselves. They are magic-formed and -driven snapshots. The originals need to be kept track of, naturally (and possibly kept alive in general, just in case); however, with the exception of Fiddlesticks/Nocturne and their ilk, they're left to live their lives. It isn't constricting, it isn't a conflict.

This also explains why champions only have four abilities + passive (the "snapshots" are simplified to be easier to control), despite occasionally being able to do some other really flashy things in their lore. It explains why they keep repeating the same lines over and over (it's not an actual person, just an imitation of one, and dialogue wasn't high on the Summoners' priority list). Hell, it explains the concept of reworks (Summoners have gotten pretty good at this, but it's a weird art/science and there's always room for improvement. A snapshot taken years ago won't make as much sense, won't look or feel or sound, as good as one taken days ago. So every now and again, when magic has progressed enough that a champion is noticeably outdated, they just... start the process over again).

Azir isn't being OOC for being in the League; after all, he's not the one being controlled--and hell, it's good PR. Kalista isn't being OOC for being in the League; she's still off doing her vengeance spirit thing, but here, she can go after traitors who would otherwise be under the Summoners' protection--and she can do it over and over again.

As for the... varieties, for lack of a better term, of the champions themselves (you know, the change from being very political in nature with the occasional bit of weirdness to Pretty Much Anybody As Long As They're Interesting In Some Way): The Summoners themselves have lost track of their original purpose. Instead of exclusively fighting battles that would otherwise break out in the real world, they're getting into competitions between themselves (yes, I'm saying there's an in-universe LCS). Why pick up another soldier or traitor or rebel when we can pick up mythical figures and kickass Voidbeasts? Rule Of Cool, dammit!

I'm aware that there are probably still a lot of holes in this, but... hey, it lets me exist, and I know that a lot of us were super bummed about not existing anymore, so. Thoughts? Opinions? Criticism? Fury?
