'Illaoi' Sounds Vaguely Hellenic To Me.

I can't quite right put my finger on it, but that name, in particular the -aoi syllable kinda reminds me of the name of something greek-related.

Also, the recent confirmation that Narrative has put Mount Targon in priority may indicate groundwork being done for an upcoming champion.

Even more, the harsh yet not vicious tone of the voice fits better on the Rakkor than in a Noxian or Ionian, in my opinion.

All this sounds quite reasonable on my head, but ultimately hinges on my ability to identify a language in which I am not fluent at all. I am still trying to find a reference.

Any thoughts?

I'm brazillian (which language is portuguese).

Translating to the letter she actually says: I'm not a fan of sermons, broken bones teach way better.

note she says sermon, not lecture. She sounded like a teacher.

A dad gives his son a sermon about not taking candy from strangers for an example. It's different from lecture I think :|

dunno if it helps

A lot of theories have been thrown around about Illaoi, such as her being a teacher of Kinkou Principles (which, I would personally love, knowing how brutal Taekwando can be), and some people just haphazardly throwing about "oh she's Braum's mother lel", but...This, I like even more. We get more lore on Mnt. Targon, and a satisfyingly ruthless champion, to boot. I really hope your guess comes up as right.

Hey man, I saw this post yesterday, and I was going to comment then, but I got distracted with work. This response may be somewhat long, but it's mostly because I care about this kind of stuff and love discussing it :P. I'm definitely following you with the reference to Greek culture, and I think that Targon is somewhat of a reference to Greek culture (Mt. Olympus, Pantheon, etc.). I personally think it would be quite interesting to introduce a character from Targon to help fill in some blanks with the lore surrounding it. i don't think there are any champions from there except for Diana and Leona and Pantheon . Now I may very well be wrong on that; I'm no lore expert, but I feel I can confidently say that there are fewer Targon characters than Ionian, which I feel "Illaoi" sounds similar too. From the first time I heard the name, I thought it was an Ionian, but I hope moreso that it's a Targon character, simply because I feel there is a saturation of Ionian characters as opposed to Targon ones. To respond to your thing about the voice fitting better in Targon, I do agree to an extent, but plenty of harsh and even vicious characters have existed or come out of Ionia (Zed and Syndra and even Irelia to an extent, but that's just a personal opinion of the character). So I understand your point on that, but I feel the voice wouldn't be out of place in Ionia per say. Personally, I would love to see a character akin to Zed , primarily because, if I remember correctly, his lore stated that he had an order of ninjas that he was training. Now, for creativity's sake and keeping champions unique, I understand if that isn't the direction that the creative team wants to take; there's only so much you can do with shadow ninja-y stuff and keep it feeling unique. Now, given the previous champions that have come out in the past year, which I believe the latest at that point will have been Kalista in Oct. of last year, there has only been 1 mage, Ekko , and even then I would argue he's more of an assassin than a true mage. Now, you could argue that Bard is a mage, but he has no scaling whatsoever and his utility far outweighs his damage potential, and if I remember correctly, Azir came out in Sept. or Aug. of last year, so he is outside of the time restraint I am working from. In addition to that, I believe there has only been one true top laner released in roughly the past year, Gnar , which was in late July I think. Now, Ekko and TahmKench can be played top, but that was not their original purpose, at least in my opinion. At least as far as TahmKench is concerned, I feel his emphasis has more been on his support capabilities than his solo lane potential, and the professional scene has reflected this. With all that in mind, I feel it may be a safe assumption to say that this "Illaoi" may very well be a top lane true mage, which would be a very interesting aspect, since the only ones that exist are maybe like eight - ten (Ryze , Lissandra , Lulu , Karthus , Chogath , Kennen , and even Rumble if you want to be really generous). Now, to be honest, that list is very generous (by that I mean I'm giving some champions credit that they may well not deserve), and many of those probably don't belong top lane, but that is where I will see them most often, and Karthus had the highest win-rate top lane a few weeks ago. So with that concept of a top lane mage in mind, I think it would introduce a very unique aspect to Targon lore, since their mages are generally sword-fighters as well (Leona and Diana ) . So it's very possible if it is a Targon champion, then this theme may follow, since it doesn't seem like Targon lore gives much room for a solid mage akin to Xerath or Brand . I use these two as the semi-epitomy of mages, because of their mobility, range, damage type, etc. etc. If it isn't a ranged mage but a fighter-type mage, it would make more sense in the Targon scene vs. Ionia, primarily based on what I understand of Targon and what they have always seemed to favor. If Rito introduces a new aspect of the lore, FANTASTIC! That would make me smile from ear to ear, and it would add more depth to the story and game. However, if they don't do that, and the champion is fully ranged, then it would just make more sense in an Ionia scene, primarily because of Syndra. But hey it could be a factionless champion, like Vladimir or Brand , which would be equally cool, since both are full blown mages. It could be argued that mages are somewhat exiled from society out of fear or something, as tends to be the case with magic in other lores like Dragon Age (not necessarily exiled in that case but heavily monitored and killed if rebellious). But overall, just some things to ponder. My opinion, a ranged top lane mage from Ionia or a factionless ranged top lane mage unless new lore is introduced. Thanks for reading! Good luck on the rift man :D

I suspect this is an Ionian female....maybe. Something about that quote gives me a witchdoctor vibe.

Yes! That is exactly what I thought! :D

I think the -aoi sound you might be thinking of is yaoi Taric

Well I'll be bamboozled; she's a Bilgewater priestess! I never would have guessed that outside of an irony pick. I'm looking forward to seeing how she plays her role both in the story and in the game.

You know it does, much like Spartoi.

I think this new champion is from Targon, and a more "Typical" female Targonian warrior vs Diana and Leona.

It's probably just a code name.
