The Protectorate have a connection to Mount Targon?

After I read the Mount Targon lore update questions popped into my mind.

  • Do the Rakkor know of the Darkins or vise versa?
  • Why are the Void creatures appearing around or on Mount Targon?
  • Does Pantheon have memories of his former self or is it all an act?
  • Where do all these other monsters appear from?
  • Why Mount Targon?

Of course these aren't all the questions I have nor do I have any answers to these questions. But I do have my thoughts and it has done more than wander.

For example I believe that the Rakkor use to go by a different name, the Protectorate. While clearly there is no strong evidence saying that this is true nor is there any real solid evidence that can point me in this direction. But its also because of the lack of information that I thought of this. The Protectorate aren't given a big backstory but a story of a war that they almost lost why thi swar started no ones any more, lost in the pages of history. But how does this tie them into the Rakkor? Well allow me to grab a passage of Aatrox's lore. > Their countrymen hailed them as heroes, but though they had saved their entire civilization from destruction, darkness lingered in the mind of each warrior. Something within them had changed. Over time, their memories of battle faded, only to be replaced with a grim revelation: their acts of heroism were, in fact, brutal atrocities committed by their own hands.

While it does tell us what happened to them after their victory but does it really tell us? The Proctectorate weren't a big empire or else we would of heard of them but surely if they were a small empire there huge turn around would be tolled threw every nation, so then why isn't it? What i believe is that once their mind turned to the grim reality to what they had done they left. They left the village, empire, nation or whatever they were a part of to go some where they can hide away from their actions. Of course those who had heard of their actions wanted to travel with them thinking it was part of their training or perhaps feeling safer in their care. When they arrived at the base of Mount Targon they saw the cruelty of the mountain and decided this would be were they shall spend the rest of their lives, in constant misery.

But those who came with them must of started to settle in the mountain understanding its harshness and growing accustomed to it. Over time those who had the memories climbed Targon to never return, to find solace at last in the cold hands of death. While they saw them selves as monsters those that had traveled with them saw them as heroes who were called by a mysterious power to climb the peak to never return because they moved on to a realm were only true warriors are allowed access. Time passed and while all the warriors had climbed the peak those who made their new lives here never forget them and decided to carry on their legacy by becoming the most skilled warriors.

Maybe i'm trying to hard to connect the dots alot of this is just "what ifs" really. A nice thought at best but I feel as if i'm no were near. Perhaps the other two champions of Mount Targon can shed some light on this. Although I feel as if the Darkin have some role in Mount Targon and the Rakkor but maybe an old delusional whale.

  • Do the Rakkor know of the Darkins or vise versa?

Interesting proposition. Another would be Shurima and Mount Targon. Both worship the sun and use its power to essentially become gods and defend their respective nations from 'darkness'. One would wonder if they're connected in any way or have ever interacted. Did the fall of Shurima force the gods to find another way to empower Runeterra's citizens? Was the Sun Disc the celestials' original gift to our world? Did its being snuffed out force the gods to make a direct and physical appearance in the world in the form of Targon's avatars to prevent it from being devoured?

  • Why are the Void creatures appearing around or on Mount Targon?

My assumption is that the creatures of the Void seep into this world through tears, usually in the dark places of the world (the abyss of the sea, primordial caves, ancient trenches etc.) If they may enter anywhere and simply prefer these locations because of their darkness or if the darkness itself weakens the boundary between our world and theirs and allows them to enter in these locations is anyone's guess.

  • Does Pantheon have memories of his former self or is it all an act?

It would appear no; "The Pantheon Aspect had obliterated his personality, memories and emotions. Atreus’s flesh was nothing but a shell inhabited by the supernatural Aspect of War; his mortal soul had joined those of the ancestors in the celestial afterlife."

  • Where do all these other monsters appear from?

Perhaps they came through gateways. Perhaps they've been here all along. Who knows?

  • Why Mount Targon?

It is one of, if not the, highest places in all of Valoran. It is literally closer to the heavens and the gods that inhabit it. The mountain itself may also hold spiritual significance from another time in Valoran's history, or possibly genesis.

The Darkin are very mysterious creatures, as is Aatrox himself. I definitely wouldn't call it delusional. I think your theory is very creative. Just my 2 cents.
