Here's a theory. What if Rammus is actually an Ancient Ascendant of Shurima? There's heavy hinting of a Yordle Empire in Shurima with Amumu, and maybe the Ascension Ritual is really ancient Yordle magic which was stolen from the Yordles by the humans that conquered them.
The Ascension ritual is already confirmed to be from Targon though.

The Ascension is already implemented to be a technique taught by the Targonians, not Yordles.
Personally, I think that Rammus should be a demi-god related to the element earth after his VGU. It just makes the most sense for me ever since they introduced the demi-gods with Ornn.
The meme about Rammus seems to be, despite all the speculation and myths, he's really just an armadillo. Or armordillo in this case.
