Did Riot retcon Nautilus' lore just to have Pyke's lore be "unique"?

Hey guys, -40 downvotes on my post in Player Behavior-guy here.

Now a lot of y'all are complaining that Pyke's backstory is literally just the same as Nautilus'.

And quite frankly, it is.

But apparently Nautilus' background is (has?) getting retconned from being some kind of "dark and edgy diving suit boi" to apparently being some kind of ancient pseudo-Loch Ness monster serving Nagakabouros.

Now this made me think.

Since we got that Pykosaurus guy coming out with this whole "Uhhh muthafuckin' my crew betrayed me and I want to kill everyone", which is basically the exact same as our Big Daddy rip-off over here, did Riot just rework Naughty boi's lore to have Pykleopetra feel like the special snowflake he clearly isn't?

I remember the post they made asking us what we thought were the most defining charasteristics of Nautilus , and the most voted answers were all about the mistery of not knowing what he was or what happened to him, and the lovecraftian and existential horror that accompany him.

I think they thought his revenge story was something very secondary they could get rid off, so they took their chance, and made it the basic pilar of their new Bilgewater champion.

I think it is more likely that they just decided that revenge isn't really a fitting theme for Nautilus,because lets be honest here,Naut hunting down the people who left him to drown would be either anticlimatic(him just sinking their ship) or naut would need to go to bilgewater,which would essentially end in a kaiju-attack,where naut searches for a few specific guys.

So they just felt like it was ok to use this story for another champ(which in my opinion isn't completely bad,this way we could get champs with similar lores to some old retconned ones like Trundles)
