Taliyah was initially conceived of as transgender by her DNA team.

Which gave me a thought...

This might sound odd, but I wonder if Taliyah was put in the same situation as Remilia IRL. Noxus might have had mages or straightup surgeons who would be able to do the reassignment. So they promised her power, they promised they'd let her be who she wanted to be. And then they may or may not have botched the procedure, and dumped her when she didn't agree with their ideals.

(Compare: Remilia got roped into playing for Renegades despite being psychologically a mess because Badawi promised her surgery. Surgery ended up being shit and left her in permanent pain, and Badawi screwed her over in other ways too.)

Why saying this game does not need trans character conceived as being homophobic? Like dude, if you wanna put trans character then also put some nazi character, put some lesbian character, put some characters that have down syndrome. Because in real life we also have those people as well.

"There are trans people and we should accept and welcome them". Yeah sure buddy, I have no problem with that IRL but why does the game "needs" that? Considering it would bring an incredible amount of shitstorm along with I don't think it's necessary.

I'm gonna honest with you, as a player, I expect from Riot to produce exciting characters whether it's a huge dragon, or a death knight or master-swordsman or an inspiring angel. Trans/Straight/Gay/Lesbian/Male/Female is not the thing I'm looking forward to. Making Taliyah or whatever girl character trans would not add a single thing to this game.

LOL does not need to reflect "human side" in my opinion. This is a fantasy world. I want to see exciting characters. And unfortunately trans character does not excite me.

Just what League of Legends needs, some transgender person that doesn't add a single thing to the game for the sake of publicity and a pat on the back by their peers.

I think Taliyah being the first representation of a middle eastern girl AND the first representation of a trans girl in the game would have been trying to force too much into a character that would have diluted both "firsts" and led to some difficulty in developing both character identities to their full potential. I think choosing to make her a good representation of the first middle eastern girl in League was a good choice, as it gives strong representation to that lesser represented group in video games. I think they still should make a trans character, and I think when they do, they can do so and develop those aspects of their character without have to concern themselves with stretching them over multiple demographics they need to hit.

Hey Riot? It's not too late to make it canon, ya know.

whatever, I'd prefer not to normalize a mental disorder for the sake of riot getting a few pats on the back.

As of 2009 Gender dysphoria is no longer considered a disorder. Apparently all the suicide and depression is purely societal influence.

Hey yall, stepping in for one moment:

Yeah, this is a pretty big topic especially considering the landscape of people talking about this stuff in this day and age. I (and all other mods) understand that this sort of thing may not sit comfortably with many of you, which is ok. We're not here to tell you how to think. That said, if you feel problematic about this, I recommend just leaving the post and not commenting. We're going to watch this very closely and if things get out of hand, we will lock it.

Just discuss responsibly, my dudes.
