Can somebody explain to me a shorthand version of why there are two homosexual guys living in Varus?

The couple are called Kai and Valmar. Kai got wounded while defending a town near the temple that imprisoned Varus against the Noxian invasion and was about to die. Valmar offered his body to Varus if he saves Kai. Varus accepts Valmar's body and the three fuse into one being. Varus is now trying to exploit Valmar's rage and anger to take full control over the body and Kai is the voice of reason trying to keep Valmar from giving in.

As in what's the story behind it or Why it happened?

I personally don't mind the change too much, it just seems a little shallow and definetly a shocker for VARUS lore, but in the end it was a pretty interesting story.

Isn't the Darkin Varus just the bow itself?
