Missed Opportunity with Varus retcon (Holy Trinity allegory)

I have no problems with homosexual characters, but Varus' old motivation, his family, was great -- arguably more compelling. Varus' original backstory was excellent, and could have been modified slightly to include the Darkin merge, while still preserving this 5 year old character.

Let me first say that I think the comic/video was very well done and very creative.

I just don't know what was wrong with the man formerly known as "Varus"...? You could have done the same thing: Noxus attacks, Varus is stuck defending the city, meanwhile, some Noxian assassins assault the village. Varus' son is mortally wounded defending his mother (who is killed). Varus gets home too late, but in time to save his son. He takes his son to the Pit of Pallas, and is there fused with his son and the Darkin. The same dynamics of vengeance vs mercy could have played out.

And here, we'd have an obvious holy trinity reference: father, son, and (evil) spirit in this case. What would this mean? Very little, like all League lore, but it's still not meaningless to a lot of players.

here are plenty of other characters whose sexuality is ambiguous which could have had their stories later enriched: Yi, Katarina, Shen, Jhin, Olaf, etc. Alas, what's done is done. The video was cool, but not sure why the team needed to shoehorn diversity in at the expense of an established character. This form of pandering is more insulting than welcoming -- that's coming from a gay friend who notified me about the change. T
