I find LoL monsters too pretty.

What do I mean with pretty?

Of course I don't think they are hot that I fap 3 times to each other for a day.

What I mean is, they are too calculated and some of them doesn't even feel organic. Cough Vel'Koz Cough Skarner.

Why can't we have abominations? What is wrong with creatures out of nightmares? Why can't Riot bring a monster that has 4 tentacles on chest, 6 eyes, 2 claws, 2 arms, 2 nightmarish wings, centipede like body, terrifying fish like head and scorpion tail?

Monster characters being underrated is surely not an excuse as almost all monster characters have niche gameplay (that's why they are underrated, not because they are not cute anime girls)) and ones don't have like Kha'Zix have more than enough playrate.

My hope is next Bilgewater champion being a nightmarish deep sea monster with obsession of human flesh.

People don’t play ugly champions. They could, but it needs something compelling than just bad looks. It’s part of why pre-vgu champs don’t get played.

It is kinda wired that Jhin makes me feel more on edge than someone like vel’koz does. We do need more nightmarish freaks. Urgot was a good one, but his meme-hood counteracts that a bit.

Warlord Dienekes3/22/2018, 7:30:23 PM4 votes

I said something similar in the months leading up to the Urgot remake. He should have been a twisted bloated corpse kept alive by machines that stretch and rip through his very flesh. A nauseating mass of rot and pus. A creature that would make children scream and grown men gag at the sight.

I believe people told me that he wouldn’t sell and that the game was rated T.

I’d love if John Carpenter or even Guillermo del Toro inspired monstrosities made their way into the game.

John Carpenter would approve.

It's because at its heart, LoL is kind of a cute game and that aesthetic is what it makes it appealing. Remember the average player age is in the mid-low teens.

You mean you don't fap to Hecarim everyday?

That's the thing I've noticed between LoL, DotA, and HotS. Each has it's own "Theme".

LoL: Humans, or things that come close, such as Champs like Ezreal Aatrox Kled. No matter who you play, you will find someone who you can, or want to relate to.

DotA: Based off of WoW, so you are going to get more "monstrous" looking things, although you can probably still relate to their lore.

HotS: Most of these guys are futuristic, but that's because of Starcraft II, Overwatch, and just ow Blizzard Makes games. Of course they have more "Anciant" heroes, such as those from Diablo and WoW. Of course Blizzard is pretty much an empire now, and they can make any theme work.

I mean really, they made a streamer into a soldier (D.va) and a sniper medic (Ana).

Any ways, Riot seems to be going for a more human approach to things, while other powerhouse MOBA's are going for their own themes, DotA has monsters, HotS has cyborgs and mechs, alongside some ancient things.

Yeah i agree,we could really need a more eldritch horror in the game.

If you want ugly champions, then there's DOTA. League's "pretty" aesthetics is one of the biggest reasons I play it over DOTA. I love Riot's current art direction in general, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I still wait for a big cyclops who tortures. (Watchers?)

Or look at HotS and "The Butcher" he feels much more "nightmarish".

And Alistair or Naut COULD be more brutal and dark themed, but they both are more... cute...

I guess it's cause of two things: many kids (~12) and very Asian orientated.

the easy answer is because theyre a company who wants to make money and abominations dont sell as well or appeal to as many people as good ol simple monsters

Ahri Baka3/23/2018, 8:53:13 PM1 votes

I like the idea of fapping to Rek'Sai

Sancre3/22/2018, 11:20:00 PM1 votes

I kinda expect Cho'gath's rework to become that, a nightmarish abomination

CasterGilgamesh3/23/2018, 1:21:44 AM1 votes

every void champion is pretty monstrous to me along with most of the shadow isles champions but then again i dont like playing things i find to look bad such as older champions with shit textures like Udyr

SolarisCorvus3/23/2018, 5:44:21 AM1 votes

Id assume because then with more bizzare asymmetrical models it might limit or make it more difficult to make as much skind for said model.

NuggetMilk3/23/2018, 6:17:56 AM1 votes

I think the closest would be Chogath but i see what you mean. However, There are many people who would be put off by an eye-offending monster with nothing aesthetically pleasing in it's appearance. Riot wouldn't benefit much from making a champ like that

ZaneShadow3/23/2018, 7:06:26 AM1 votes

Terrifying fish head? Like a shark? I mean sharks are a little scary but not because of their face....

Well, as for an abomination of ugliness that makes some viewers actively sick to look at, why? There’s no story is what I mean. Where did it come from? Why so poorly put together that it’s form is inefficient? Like as a summonable pet of some deranged and broken Zaunite or a fool who brushed minds with an elder god (A-sol brother or mad aspect of targon?) maybe, but an actual champ wouldn’t have the story. Ugliness does exist, just not in graphic detail like old urgot. When you imagine a real world version of Kazix with the compound eyes, he’d be a vile monster to look at. Or Kog maw drooling literal flesh melting acid with a mouth like the creature from alien, he’d be terrifying. It’s just not graphically shown because it’s unrelatable. We don’t Attach to these completely ugly monsters because at a certain point the ugliness becomes unbelievable. Like one eye on a stomach, three on it’s right shoulder and another on the back or it head. Why? There’s no reason? Im not relating because this level of ugly is beyond even deformity, it’s just impossible.
Does that make sense? Too ugly, something gets unrelatable to Beyond saying “oh it’s that ugly thing”. I’m pretty sure that’s the only thing 99% of the player base knew about old urgot. Not that he was a zaunite noxus undead monster that had quite the story to his life, that he was so ugly that everything else was simply overshadowed and became forgotten. The right amount of ugly like kog maw or to some Gragas, and you have a story that goes with it to make the ugliness almost enjoyable and possibly character building.

Yes. We need a proper cast of monsters, and they need to be scary. They should scare their players, their teammates, and their enemies, too. The fear should be part of the monsters’ power fantasy, or else they will just be supposedly fearsome champs who are actually just strange or ugly.

Here are the challenges.

  1. These champions will appear regularly. People will get used to them. They must be inherently unsettling, however often seen, rather than unknown or unpredictable.

  2. Players are brave. They are pretending to be the greatest champions of all Runeterra, brought together to fight. They have stared down Cho’Gath more than once, and they will need something truly unusual to frighten them.

  3. Scary things are unpleasant. The champion must be enjoyable to play despite being disturbing. This requires them to represent the darkest aspects of humanity, like Jhin’s ruthless, murderous urges.

I think Eve is a step in that direction. If you see her for a moment, then you might think her seductive, but look for just a moment longer, and you will see that she is a revolting, unearthly abomination.

That sense of fear, disgust, and foreign-ness is important to any monster, and I want to see more champions evoke it.

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO3/23/2018, 4:27:35 PM1 votes

Except that abomination when rendered and placed into the game will resemble a cronenburg chimera that won’t inspire the fear it promised. Lovecraftian and Eldritch horrors were terrifying because of their absolute unknowability. Rendering hem into lol will take away whatever fear factor is present.
