So what should riot do with Miss Fortune?

I was just reading about how riot started MF has a fun and spunky character and have been moving her into a badass bounty hunter. That division came to a head when riot tried to give her a new VO that focused on the latter instead of the former. As a side note, this incident makes it pretty obvious that you have to be really careful when you want to change the direction of a character in any medium. You run the risk of splitting that character's fan base.

As I see it riot is now given basically 3 options when it comes to miss fortune.

One is to try and satisfy both sides. This would require walking a tightrope forever. That would be work. On the plus side, this is easiest on the fans if riot pulls it off and only the lore teams and VO people really have to do anything. So it's cheap too. Unfortunately, it means riot is going to have to admit that some of their fans aren't fully on-board with riot's new vision of the character and will have to partly change coarse with her. However, if riot can mix up fun stuff with serious brooding grim-dark then all will be well.

Two is pick a side, even if it means screwing over half of the fanbase. Turns out that riot just accidentally ran into this and it caught them off guard enough to put the brakes on things. I've been saying for awhile that the lore/world teams aren't paying any attention to the champions in the game and doing whatever, and this proves it. So why should riot piss off half of the fans? Well for starters, it lets them stay lazy and allows them to keep warping MF into whatever they want her to be. Did people love the fun and playful pirate who was a contrast to Gankplank's mean ruthlessness? Well who cares about those people? They've only spent real money on the game. Suckers. Riot should teach those people a lesson about trusting video game developers. We need more angst in the game because game's aren't supposed to be fun, they are supposed to milk the whales... with angst! Just like Luke Skywalker in the Last Jedi! Obviously everyone wants Miss Fortune to turn into Old Man Luke. I mean why give the people of bilgewater hope when you can be just as bad as the guy you disposed? Hopefully, she won't run out of bounties to hunt or else MF is going to be brooding in the corner of the tavern with that one guy every D&D group seems to have for eternity. That's what everyone wants out of miss fortune: to be the one player who broods all the time and doesn't play with the group or contribute to the story. I mean look at MF's splash. You'd have to be blind to see even a hint of a fun or playful character, wouldn't you?

Luckily, this is the internet so no one is ever going to pick up a hint of sarcasm in that last sentence, or this one for that matter.

Like option 1, this is cheap in that only the lore people and VO people have to do work, but on the downside half of her fans will hate riot.

Three is instead of simply picking one aspect to keep in the game and realizing that trying to keep both groups of fans happy would be tough, riot could admit a schism has happened and pick one of the two aspects for miss fortune while offloading the other half into a new but visually similar ADC. This is having your cake and eating it too. Riot could have both a fun pirate that is full of spunk for one of the characters and the other could be the badass bounty hunter. The only downside to this is it'd be expensive as riot would have to add a champion and then would have to figure out what to do with people who've bought a skin for her but like the new champion more. Also people would be complaining that there's another new champion in the game.

Honestly? I think the solution they'll go for is to just not do anything different in the forseeable future. They'll keep doing lore of her as a serious character (Which she gets EXCESSIVELY, it's actually pretty surprising how much lore stuff and animation appearances she's had since Burning TIdes) whilst leaving her the same in game. Probably the best solution to this peculiar situation, it's not something that's as easy to solve as say Taric's characterisation where they managed to somehow make him work both seriously and comedically at the same time.

I think Gun Goddess was a pretty good balance between the two, joking around but ready to throw down and not afraid of killing. I don't think it would be a stretch to pass that to her new voice, and in her current lore shes serious, and wants to lead Bilgewater and notices shes becoming ruthless like the man she hates with a passion, but shes also got scenes where shes joking around, or notices shes in control of all outcomes and handles it calmly and with a joking tone. Like the part in burning tides wheres shes got the one dude in the coffin and dealing with the other dude. So I think a mix between the two would suit the character correctly, but what I don't think it would fit if they make it seems like she wants to have sex with everything in sight. A lot of people think that but it is not her character, especially not since the rework in Burning Tides.
