What is Mundo's character alignment?

Is he Chaotic Neutral, Good, or Evil? Obviously, he causes a lot of harm and suffering to those around him, but is he really evil? After all, in his eyes he's curing these people of their ailments. He is not actively TRYING to harm people, the opposite, actually.

What is Mundo exactly?

I would say chaotic natural. Attempting to cure ailments doesn't inherently make someone "good". The need to find a cure may be more important to a doctor / scientist than the overall welfare of those suffering from the problem.

Think about early psych treatments. Things like electro-labotamies weren't really for the patients benefit as much as understanding how electricity impacts the human brain. .. it MIGHT have helped ... but it wasn't likely

What are we using as a barometer? If we’re judging specifically by the D&D rulebooks, intent doesn’t matter for certain actions, like murder of innocents. Ergo, Mundo should theoretically by Chaotic Evil.

However, the case could be made that his brain is too twisted to have a grasp on his surroundings and therefore he is little more than an animal. So True Neutral or Unaligned depending on the edition of D&D we’re using.

Chaotic evil with an argument for chaotic neutral. He is morally ok with murder, which places him in the evil category. You could argue because he is mentally ill, he doesn't mean to kill people and because he is just as likely to kill bad people as good people, he might be neutral.

Chaotic Neutral, because he's actually insane and doesn't comprehend reality

Probably chaotic neutral due to being absolutely insane, with no sense of direction for his actions.

Sure he does intend to do good things(at least in the new lore),but his insanity prevents him from actually doing anything good.
