Lovecraftian vibes in the new lore
The heavy use of adjectives and minimal dialogue. The adjectives were nebulous and gave a "words can't properly describe this event". For instance
"The light surged and Diana screamed as it poured into her, a union with something vast and inhuman, impossibly ancient and powerful."
There were better examples but it suffices.
There was a weird fiction side as well. There are many stories of Lovecraft's where our protagonist is by others near the end of the story told that his experiences were caused by his madness or delusions. But our narrator always has a least one piece of information that makes you think, "Hmmm, maybe it did really happen."
Take the old lady climbing the mountain with
. Did she ever climb that mountain with her? Was she a specter or old inhabitant of the Lunari? Or was this Diana's delusions and the cloth was hers as a child?
Though this is not entirely in the style of Lovecraft-which is good! Lovecraft never gave emphasis to his narrators emotions or fleshed them out as characters. Why would he, in his view, man was small and insignificant compared to the unplumbed elderitch night-phantasms of the unknown.
No, LOL needs to flesh out its characters. Love reading these short stories, I look forward to the final two.
