What kind of cinematic would you like to see in the future?

Hi everyone, Fal here to talk about cinematics.

Earlier today I talked about cinematics with some friends, and I was wondering, what kind of cinematic would you like to see? Which champs would you like to see featured in a cinematic?

Would you like to see a music cinematic featuring different champions such as Awaken? Or maybe a music cinematic featuring only one champion, akin to Warbringers:Jaina?

Or would you prefer origin stories such as Annie: ORIGINS or even Warbringers:Azshara?

Or perhaps something featuring different champions but with heavier lore significance than a music cinematic such as Ryze: Call of Power?

I know it's the fate of the most popular champs to appear in cinematics (I see you there, Yasuo!), but with recent cinematics we've seen some less popular champs appear (Trundle, Kennen, Karma), even if those are brief apparitions, so who knows?

Anyway, I'm just here looking for some info on what people would like to see, whether it's a champion, a theme, a music... This sort of stuff. I, for one, would love to see a cinematic themed around the most powerfully dangerous individual of Runeterra (such as Xerath, Syndra, Lissandra, Mordekaiser perhaps, and some more). It's quite a wild dream because none of them are really popular, but it would be flashy and epic, and I think that's what Riot is trying to do with their cinematics, as it attracts people.

So tell me what -or who- you'd like to see in a cinematic, I'm genuinely interested! Also I'll leave a poll down there - I know you can't know for sure, but I'm interested in your gut feelings!

If we get another cinematic this summer, I really hope it's not a music one or an LCS one. I would rather have a lore one like Ryze had.

distant screaming A battle betwen Azir and Nasus vs Xerath and Renekton whenever the Shuriman arc gets continued as a trailer like Demacia got that cinematic to tease the event aka Sylas's revolution pls Riot i beg you I rly want to see those 4 fighting in a cinematic especially Azir doing crazy sh** with his sand powers

I find that cinematics like Awaken are the best overall as it gives more people the chance of seeing their favorite champion in action. So I would personally love to see a Freljord cinematic. With the Freljord cinematic, it would open new possibilities for a chance of every faction getting their cinematic, which should be done in my opinion. That is my practical view.

However my personal view is that I would love to see a cinematic like the Ryze one for Lissandra. I would love her to give us visions of what she did when Runeterra was comepletely different thousands of years ago. I would imagine it being flashes of short memories of the Rune Wars, Darkin War, War of the Three Sisters, Void Invasion etc. There is so much that she could've potentially witnessed that I believe we all should know about. Now I know that I have a personal bias toward Lissandra but nonetheless she is probably the oldest person on Runeterra who is still alive and has knowledge of all the things that have happened, so that alone would make her a good candidate. Leblanc, Nasus and Mordekaiser may have witnessed some things but compared to Lissandra they're still too "young" so their stories wouldn't be as broad.

I want to see an all Poro cinematic.

Well since you mentioned the Warbringers series I'ma splurge a bit:

I had an idea a while ago of a Warbringers/Harbingers style series about the fall of Icathia, specifically it from the perspective of champions who were witness to the events. This'd allow for the explorations for the specifics of the conflict and just what everyone was thinking at the time. I'm talking Nasus, Renekton, Aatrox, Varus, Zilean, Jax, hell if you want to you could throw in ancient Voidborn like Vel'Koz or maybe even Bard if he somehow got involved.

Picture it like this:

Episode 1: Jax - showcasing basically what happened in Where Icathia Once Stood from Jax's perspective and then what he did immediately after that story Episode 2: Nasus - showcasing Nasus and the dying Setaka, how the Ascended retreated from Icathia, and their plans going forward Episode 3: Varus - showcasing the Void spilling in to Shurima and destroying everything Episode 4: Vel'Koz - showcasing the chaos and eradication of Icathia and all of its people Episode 5: Renekton - showcasing the Ascended's war with the Void, starting bleak, eventually progressing Episode 6: Bard - the crackpot episode of my dreams showcasing Bard working to give the Ascended some kind of edge against the Void, maybe retrieving the relic, sealing some portal, something like that. Maybe noone even knows he's there and this is entirely from Bard's perspective Episode 7: Aatrox - the war gets won, Shurima is victorious, but this episode would be showing the damage in the aftermath, including how changed from the conflict the Ascended would become

All crackpot, all unlikely to happen, but MAN I'd pay out the arse for a series like that.

I think Awaken is the best we got yet. It showed multiple champions in action that is taken directly from the lore. And what is even better Its from a future story, in a way is a really well-made teaser for the lore fans. Not some senseless battle in a forest.

Some stuff I would enjoy seeing (of course not all of them at once):

Caitlyn Vi We always read that they are a team (and a quite effective one it seems) in the lore, yet we never actually saw them in action together. We don't even have a story in which both are featured, it's either just Caitlyn or just Vi. I want to see them chase a criminal together through Piltover, Caitlyn taking the lead and Vi making snarky comments here and there.

Twitch From the perspective of one of his victims. Warwicks cinematic has shown us what great potential Zaun has for spooky cinematics. Imagine some guy has to do some work in the sewers, then he hears something laugh in the darkness.... He starts coughing and is overwhelmed but something stinking disgustingly...

He keeps walking and then sees a humanoid rat standing on a pipe, readying it's crossbow. He starts running away, the creature is laughing like a maniac and bolts are being shot at the poor guy left and right. One of the bolts is scratching him and we just see how his veines get an ill green colour while he starts cramping.

Viktor Orianna Heimerdinger These are not supposed to be in the same cinematic, but I want the same stuff for them: Showing a peaceful scene, without much action and fighting. Heimerdinger and Viktor could be shown crafting some new inventions, while Orianna could dance somewhere together with her ball.

Shen Akali Kennen vs Zed Kayn

NO MUSIC VIDEO JUST AN A 20 MINUTE CINEMATIC STORY WITH DIALOG AND COOL FIGHT SCENES

no idea why riot likes to foreshadow cool battles and refuses to show them in cinematic.

Erusaurus5/5/2019, 12:16:34 AM2 votes

Shen and his duties in the Spirit Realm. Maybe add Yuumi for a touch of cuteness.

Or maybe they could finish the Akali cinematic they started and never finished...

4 Step Cadence5/4/2019, 4:43:22 PM2 votes

A Jhin one that is... Not from his perspective, maybe from the perspective of a witness or even the victim canvas.

To my knowledge, everything we've seen about Jhin up to this point has been from his perspective when it comes to his art. We don't actually know what they or the scene looks like, our only clues being that it traumatizes people who only caught a glimpse of it. Though, I think everything is from his perspective because I don't think they can ever actually show what he does to people. They had to nerf his color story because it was too violent, after all. I doubt we'll ever see something like this, but still, its an idea.

As long as it progresses the lore

A canon one that forwards the lore of League of Legends. .

I'd like to finally see a cinematic based on the demigods battles:

Shurima, Renekton slashes through countless soldiers as they vaporize in sand, he then gets a weapon fight against Susan who gets thrown back a little, they then cast their ultimates but the fight gets interrupted by Azir who shows up and cast his soldiers-wall to separate the Ascended with then Xerath shooting his Q-W to destabilize the situation.

Shift to the Freljord where we see Anivia, Ornn and Volibear on a three-way contest.

The finally we get in the skies above Pantheon soaring through the stars as they slowly take the form of Aurelion Sol who bashes the aspect and other Targonians in the open space.

But I very well know this is never going to happen because Blizzard art/marketing teams will never make anything that is unrelated with the most selling sides of LoL which are Ionia, Bilgewater, Lux and Ezreal.

SuicidePlank5/4/2019, 4:46:04 PM1 votes

Gangplank and his fight with MF, his attempt to rise back to power. I think it would be a pretty cool cinematic, since he never got one, also you could include TF and Graves in it.

SettDownShutUp5/4/2019, 6:52:04 PM1 votes

I would personally love a story between Gangplank and Tahm Kench. Maybe a deal Gangplank made, and when Tahm kench comes to collect he finds he gets more than he bargained for with the ruthless pirate.

I would like a cinematic with a void creature. The void is these supposed monsters of creation, mutilated and disgusting. But we've yet to really see one ion a full cinematic.

If we want cinematic story with quality on par with Warcraft's animated series. The first thing that needs to happen is the 'suits' need to stop trying to interweave promoting the game which in the past most recent cinematics kinda has.

"Call of Power" had its moments of heavy storytelling but it also stopped to cameo a bunch of champions, of which weren't there because their presence was integral to the narrative but so they could flex their abilities on screen for a few moments. Which left me to interpret it as either fan service for no real sake or a subtle attempt at prompting playable characters, ergo like this flashy character, come play them in our game today! Riot made what should have been a CG trailer that actually let the lore and worldbuilding have it's full time to shine. Because every other CG Riot produces is either for eSports or celebrating the start of the ranked season. Notice how the Warbringers series never has that moment where the story has to stop so Jana and her best friends can advertise their in-game combat skills, something that only serves to deflate the progress of the narrative. Even with all the canceled animated projects we've seen- like the Zed, Lux, Darius & MF. They're all featurettes of fightporn rather than unique storytelling.

The only cinematic Riot has ever produced that was entirely on par with the Warbringers series was Annie: Origins. It purely focused on story-driven moments, character depth and emotional investment bundled in a tidy narrative. I know the Varus CG was solely a lore based production too, but the non-diegetic music overshadows everything.

With most other animated trailers Riot has officially released are still variations of fightporn, like "Awaken" is. Devs say this shit is canonical, but it doesn't have the same impact when all the characters do is jump around in combat with no speaking role whatsoever. Champions fighting against or with another champion is NOT lore, that's a fluff piece trying to advertise combat and potentially the game itself. IMHO I have very low faith in this ever not being the case with future CG trailers since the past examples have shown little to change that.

I want to see either a schematic seeing jax bashing in the faces of the enemies in a arena (like olaf vs everything) or see a schematic about the battle between renekton and nasus. Both would be awesome.

Neamean5/11/2019, 4:13:15 AM1 votes

Dynasty Warrior style Olaf and Tryndamere on opposing side but then some void creature pop up they go back to back slay it and back to fighting eachother.
