So can there be anything positive about Demacia?

I genuinly don't get this.

The new champ looks cool visually, seems like a bruiser (it better be an ap bruiser) and as much as i cringe everytime i see his name, i'll probably play him. His ideals are neat, fight the power n all that shit is always fun.

But i don't get how you managed to make noxus, a country hellbent on waging war, look like nice and accepting people while you make demacia look like an oppressive nation that treats anyone with magic in their blood like lesser humans. Demacia used to be league's version of classic fantasy to me, something i've loved since i was a little kid. Seeing them only be depicted like this lately just sucks.

the first paragraph describes magic as an affliction, so shouldn't they be treating mages who willingly surrender as patients? shouldn't they look into ways of getting these people back into society? No just lock em up, welcome to nazi germany Demacia. But while they do this they also have an order of mages. They have a prince playing knight with his dragon girlfriend. And a GIANT FUCKING MAGICAL GOLEM. Them having these things made me believe demacia was trying to change but that it was still in the middle of opening up to magic. I guess i was wrong.

Like how am i supposed to even defend garen as a character at this point? My friend told me he was an asshole and his justice wasn't worth shit after he killed the possessed villager . I've always said garen serves what he believes is just, that he could not have known the man was possessed. But when a country hunts down little children because of magic, there's absolutely nothing just about it. There's no point in being the might of demacia at that point.

######how the fuck did ezreal even manage to become a national hero while being a mage.

As a quick edit i'd like to link to Warlord Dienekes reply. It explains my concerns better than i could've worded it.

I feel like demacia is taking a role in the lore where there's no reason to like them. Noxus shows both it's good and bad sides with it's accepting society and the war vs ionia.

Welcome to 2010s mainstream writing in the west, where anything constructive and collaborative is automatically bad, and anything destructive and ultra-egoistical the unquestioned good.

This is the result of many writing sectors being filled by individuals yet to be confident and competent in any philosophical discourse but pretend to actually know any nuance anyway.

And thus we get this highly contrived "nuance", where it just goes "white is black; black is white. Depth is me". Rules and establishment can only ever mean oppression and exclusion of others, and destruction of anything constructive will liberate everyone and definitely won't come at the expense of others and/or the weak; people is inherently good and the systems that PEOPLE MAKE AND CONTROL is the real evil one, and not because it is abused by evil people, therefore to solve all problems we just have to get rid of EVERYTHING... all these hacks screeched.

And you wonder why the writing caliber these days is so utterly intellectually bankrupt.

I think in the story where Lux and Galio meet it is implied that Demacia does actually try to cure mages and they keep them in slums, not in cages.

Eitherway Demacia doesn't try to conquer and surpress other nations like Noxus and its people are generally known to help each other out(like the people who accepted Shyvana). If there is something threatening the citizens of demacia, then the military will step in to protect its people. Meanwhile in Noxus you'll likely be left to die unless you can convince them that you are worth the effort to be rescued.

Because writers have a very evident bias against Demacia while they absolutely love Noxus and Bilgewater.

I really wish that I could understand where all these stereotypes about the factions are coming from, because I really don't see them. Maybe it's because I'm old.

Every nations or faction of Runeterra has it's bright and dark sides.

Demacia is a regime of absolutism. The kings words are the law because that is how it is. And why there used to be good reasoning behind Demacia's "Anti-magic" ruling in the times Galio was not just thought to be a legend, now it is just there because it always has been. Mages are bad, the king rules, no reason to think about it. That's just how it is. But besides that, it is also a nation that will defend their people to the bitter end.

Noxious is the polar opposite. No one gets discreminated because of their background or quirks, for all that matters in Noxius is how strong you are. It is a ruthless nations of elite, build on strneght and trust in strenght. A kingdom that could destroy itself from the inside at any given time, should any of the elite clans try to take all the power. Traitors and weakling are exilded or killed without mercy and if you cannot take care of yourself, no one will. There is no other rule, than power.

Pitover is the city of progress, but also the city of corruption and intrigues. For every great inventions, there is at least one scientist betrayed of their recognition or dead. A city where the rich make use of the poor and when some orphan children dissapear, no one is suprised.

It's counterpart Zaun is free of morals. Every believes what they want to believe and dosen't act like a innocent nice person on the outside. It is also a city without rules and a city where a lot of people die daily. Of sickness, explosions, because of some experiment running wild, or because of a certain cyborg.

Bilgewater is a ruthless city. But its people are no different. To survive there you need to be strong or cunning, at best both, but cunning might be more important. The most important thing is, to not let go of your desires and keep fighting! Learn to swim or drown.

Good and Evil isn't so black and white though. It is all a perspective kind of thing. Demacia and Noxus are more Law and Chaotic rather then a concept of Good and Evil. Demacia is steadfast in its ways no matter the cost, even if their acts come off as inhumane while Noxus exemplifies dragging yourself up from the dirt through any means for glory. Depending on your viewpoint, either side can be seen as good.
