Seriously people shouldn't jump to conclusions about Viktor.

So yeah we got some new lore on Piltover/Zaun and a lot of Viktor fans are already grabbing their pitchforks because they are dissatisfied with the depiction of the machine cult(not even sure if it is considered a cult in the lore,as it is never called one) in the current story, which honestly doesn't surprise me.

However I feel like a lot of people are jumping to conclusions here.

First of all some seem to think of this cult as evil, which is kinda ironic, because a lot of Viktor-fans get triggered whenever someone assumes that Viktor is evil. I mean what did the cult do to make people believe they are evil? They basically rescued the little girl by replacing her arms with augmentations(appearantly even for free!) and it was said that a lot of people are drawn into this cult because they cured/rescued them. Then there is Zavier, who had no problems with Camille not joining their cult and happily gave her the info she was searching for, without wanting something in return.

Some people seem to misunderstand the whole "sacrifice"-thing,believing that the machine cult just butchered some dude and presented his organs at a table. But thats not the case at all. The cultist are offering their own flesh at the altar, basically showing off what they replaced and practicing a zaunite tradition in sacrificing something personal for a better invention at the same time.(said tradition is likely based on the concept of discarding something important to you,to push you to even greater lenghts).

Sure there is the line about the cultists don't seem to like unaugmented, but on the one hand we don't know if that is true(Camille might have said that just to get away from Aviet) and even if it were true,it doesn't mean that the cult is actively attacking unaugmented or something like that.

Then there seem to be people who have more or of a problem with the religious ways of the cult. However we don't even know whats the relation between Viktor and the cult. We don't know if Viktor is really the one in charge and how much power he has over them. He could be facepalming about all this religious gibbering,he might just use/tolerate the religious aspects for what they do,he might not even be the original creator of the cult or might have created it unintentionally.

So overall I feel like we shouldn't jump to conclusions about all of this,as we are lacking a huge amount of details here.

It's not necessarily about the cult being evil. Glorious Evolved aren't evil. As you said they help diseased people, are pretty nice, and don't care if you're Piltovian or Zaunite, poor or rich, if you want join then you can. The organs in a jar were probably the post-augmentation wastage anyway so no one got hurt as well.

What I personally find problematic is that it doesn't make a sense for a person who devotes their entire life to science to be a root for a religious cult that approaches science in such simpleminded way. It just... doesn't fit.

Fortunately Viktor isn't mentioned anywhere in this lore so as someone already stated in a different thread, it is very possible that the church came to life completely without his knowledge. Maybe people he augmented saw this as a miracle and started worshipping the technology that saved their lives, and he isn't even aware of it. Who knows. I like this theory a lot.

I raise my pitchfork just in case the new lore ended up like release Jayce lore. I hope it won't but better be prepared for the worst! Want one too? :3

"Cult" is inherently evil.

They also have reason for concern from previous lore mishaps.

I'm just going to say two things. One: I agree with you on this.

Second: the whole presenting their flesh on the altar to show what they gave up for progress reminds me of my favorite line in both lores. It comes from Mundo, back from the journal of justice, and represents everything that makes Zaun so great. When he was asked if he would ever change his skin hue back to its natural shade if possible, Mundo replied with this amazing line that I have removed the "mundo's" from: basically, he said that he could easily change it back, but why would he want to? Almost everyone in Zaun has an odd skin tint, and he views his purple skin as a sign of Zaunite progress.

Zaun is a place where anyone can get the help they need for free, even small children, and all are accepted. Sure, your neighbor might go missing and never be seen again, but overall there seem to be more positives than negatives to Zaun.
