The Horrifying Oversight Revealed in Thresh's New Bio

First off, let me make this clear: I'm talking about an in-universe oversight. Nothing to do with the real-life people who wrote it.

Now that's out of the way, let's get into the lore. Thresh's order had a guy with obvious personal problems who was known for being a jerk. Instead of helping him find a way to be less of a jerk, this enlightened civilization of brilliant scholars basically stuck him in a basement with spooky stuff.

In an utterly shocking turn, this move did not instill Thresh with a strong sense of gratitude or loyalty. What were they thinking? Did they believe evil was an inherent trait of a person rather than something that could be fixed? Was it common practice on the Blessed Isles to isolate "difficult" people and let them get worse out of everyone's sight? If so, how many more people very similar to Thresh had the same reaction he did when the Ruination came?

These people were supposed to be smart, but they goofed big time here. No one is born evil. Thresh's monstrosity could have been prevented if anyone put in a smidgen of effort, but they took the easy way out and stuck him in a magic hole in the ground.

I think you have an over-broad interpretation of smart. Being book smart is not the same as being street smart is not the same as being empathetic. The scholars of the Blessed Isles could have been able to ramble off an entire author's thesis on the breeding habits of moontails, but could have been completely ignorant of how to socialize and empathetically deal with someone who clearly is not adjusting well to the social norms of society.

I mean, this is true irl. No one wants to focus on rehabilitation or being tolerant of bad traits enough to allow them to comfortably seek help before they potentially cause harm. Id like to think we are an advanced civilization, but we think more with our emotions and shun things percieved bad regardless instead of trying to get people preventative help.... Then act shocked when they do the thing they couldnt get help for, because if they admit they have said thoughts, theyre immediately shunned by society.

Honestly no one likely expected Thresh to turn out THIS bad. They thought they could just give the weirdo the job that no one else wants to do and then be done with him, that way the other workers don't have to deal with him and if thresh had gotten sick or insane, then they could have simply fired him(or killed him).

The only reason why Thresh was able to become this dangerous to the order was because he had the army of the mad king at his side.
