Open thread about Butcher's Bridge
So here we are, finally, at this moment when Butcher's Bridge comes back. It's 3 years since the map was released and we've got another Bilgewater event now, which I'm very excited to.
Unfortunetly, Riot gives back Butcher's Bridge only during the event, with a chance that it may be permanently. I don't actually think that Riot knows what to do with this map, so I decided to open this thread where we can share our opinion.
This thread has 2 missions. First, we should give Riot the massive feedback that we want Butcher's Bridge permanently. Second, we should talk about how they can actually implement the map to the game.
Btw sorry for my English if its bad xD
For the first thing you can just spam everywhere that you want Butcher's Bridge, so lets talk about our second problem. I'll talk through some community suggestions I heard and I'll give you some ideas that I've found out.
What can Riot do:
- Do nothing. Just throw Butcher's Bridge out and we won't ever see this map again or maybe on another event in 3 years from now.
Of course it won't be a good decision. Even if some people want the events to be very special, look at the ARAM community! You made a very nice map and if you can just add it to the game, the ARAM players wouldn't play every time on Howling Abbys which can be boring for the long time of use.
- Randomise the map choose.
I know, many people are looking forward to this option, because "its ARAM so there everything should be random!" but we can have something better. And look at minuses of this solution. If its random you can get Howling Abbys 5 times in a row when you want to play Butcher's Bridge. Also, if the players will know on which map they will play before the match starts, they will be leaving so many times. I think we should stay at the point where ARAM gameplay is random, but not the visual changes!
- Butcher's Bridge for RP.
Please Riot, Nagakabourossa sees you! Don't ever try to do that, just don't. Make a Star Guardian ARAM map and give it for RP but take your hands away from Butcher's Bridge! Why? Because BB is located in the main universe! The same as HA, TT, SR and even your forgoten Crystal Scar. I know that this map is some kind of a skin for Howling Abbys but you never did something for RP when we talk about the main universe. Every champion is basicly for free, every map is for free (and most of them are permanent), every story is for free. There are only few skins like Bandit Graves which are for RP but thats good. Butcher's Bridge is just... Bilgewater! Its a great place to go after reading a Bilgewater story. So just don't do that. Remember about Nagakabourossa!
- Voting for a map.
It would be unfair. Just don't do that. You will also see an epidemia of players leaving the champ "select". Trust me, it isn't a good option.
- Making 2 queues for each map.
It won't be very good idea, especially if you want to make new ARAM maps.
- Rotating the maps between some parts of the time, for example weeks, days, hours, maybe patches (?).
I think the best option would be minutes. Even 1 minute. But with a possibility to leave the queue when it changes to (for example) Howling Abbys! I don't see any serious minuses of this solution. There is just one queue, not two, and when everybody accepts a match, they will play on a map that the current minute is for. It may cause some players to not accept a match but it still seems to be a good option.
- Making a programme like Wooxy which allows you to see a map skin and doesn't let the other players to see it. It should work like this: In the same match one player sees Butcher's Bridge if he wants to and another player, in the same time, sees Howling Abbys.
This one would be the best solution. But it will cost a lot of work. I think that its pretty worth, espescially if you are planning to add more map skins to the game. You have done this mechanism already (e-sports events Rift or Arcade Rift), but it may be hard to do with ARAM maps because of their unique player interactions. Like when the gate opens on Butcher's Bridge and the bridge falls down in Howling Abbys. But if you can do that, it'd be the best option. 0 problems ever again you will try to do a map skin. 0 problems with queues or randomising/voting systems.
So thats my opinion, thanks for reading. Write your suggestions down below and hope that Riot will read it.
How do you feel about this thread and... my English? Should I post this on Reddit too? Cuz I want Butcher's Bridge so hard!
EDIT: I know, most of the community wants the map choice to be randomized. People literally can't see the minuses of this solution. But I do. I won't change people's thinking, but when there's a chance that Butcher's Bridge will be permanent, I don't want Riot to throw it like that. My English is poor, but I'll try to explain better the best possible solution I found so far because I see people didn't get it.
So there's a 3rd party software for Legue of Legends called Wooxy. With Wooxy you can do your custom skins, including maps, emotes, etc. and use it in game. Other people can't see the changes, only you. There are sites like MapSkins when you can share your own projects. After 2015 Bilgewater event, Wooxy was the only solution to see Butcher's Bridge in game instead of HA. There were some little bugs like the gate didn't open or there were some poros on the map, but BB was mostly working good, till it has broke with some Riot's changes in LoL files. But Wooxy was working, so Riot would do something similiar with ARAM maps. And you know, they did Wooxy-like mechanism already. Just look on the Arcade Rift. When there were the event, you could turn it off. And you didn't turn it off for all the players in-game, just for you. So we see Riot probably can do that. We would just choose the maps in champ select like we choose champion skins or wards and we won't affect other players. There can be a randomize option for those who don't pick the map. But it's the best solution Riot can do because both maps would be available everytime for everyone. If you got Gangplank, you can choose Butcher's Bridge. You wouldn't do it with a simple randomizer. ;)
