Reminder of how the VGUs are chosen.

Four primary factors

1, Player Requests: Most weighted reason, but current survey line up is unknown, Aatrox was second and Nunu first in latest one, so I guess this is why he is finally chosen. 2, Overall Design / Art / Theme Level 3, Potential of a Champion's Archetype when something they think is badass, like shadow ninja girl or Angel/Fallen Angel. Irelia rework is result of this. 4, Other Events / Projects going on around Riot - Don't know any example for this besides Gangplank VGU.

Other factors: Team Excitment - how much Riot is hyped about xy champion, clearly they wont go with an idea they feel is bad/ not solid. Champion Diversity: Affects things like where champion is played, which subclass its from, what faction it is from, light/dark? Basically, IMO an option to prevent everything from being about top lane and jungle champion rework and back again.

Reminder of tier ones: DrMundo Corki Chogath Fiddlesticks Kayle Morgana Kennen KogMaw Nocturne Mordekaiser Pantheon Rammus Skarner Shaco Udyr Volibear

Out of these, the ones I think are definitely should be considered urgently for next year are: DrMundo Fiddlesticks Mordekaiser Pantheon. Sadly, all of these minus Fiddle is considered top laner as fantasy, I refuse to count Morde as ADC because that is up in the air for change. Corki KogMaw are there on the list, not sure when they'd get used, but certainly would make role divergence, as marksman have so far been mostly left out of VGUs. Kennen is bit of an odd duck, but they probably gonna let him be viable in other lanes, whenever he is touched.

What are your hopes for 2019 if we go by 4 or 5 VGU a year logic?

so after Akali comes Nunu and that's it for this year???

i don't want any more champs atm. there are enough to blance around. at least two more VGU's should come this year imo.

my hopes are Pantheon and Mordekaiser or Morgana +Kayle

next year? the ones who don't get it this year from above + DrMundo Rammus Chogath Gragas Shaco

(Volibear would be cool too tbh cuz he is nearly as simple minded as DrMundo/Rammus )

Of that list, DrMundo and Chogath are in DIRE need of VGUs, with Cho looking like the 3D visualization of a child's drawing of a monster cockroach as he is currently. I think though that Cho's new skin, Dark Star Cho'Gath, will put a halt to his chances of a VGU next year (as they'd want a little more time for their work to be worth it), but he really needs one. I think the fact that they were willing to do the Make-A-Wish skin for Cho indicates that they're ok with him waiting a little longer for a VGU. After them, Mordekaiser is a must. Lord Pizza Feet must be reinvented. He looks god awful.

Honestly i think fiddle is fine enough to not be top priority.

I mean his kit is kinda weird, sometimes seems hard to counter on the spot, but i'd not sai it's dire as Mundo or Pantheon.

tryndamere anyone? that obnoxious splitpush champion that is just a stat check and can win or lose lane based on rng, vgu that shit

It's hard for me to choose because so many champs I really do want to be updated, either because they really are outdated or problematic.

If I had to choose 4-5 of the top tier though, it'd have to be Mordekaiser Pantheon Kayle Morgana Udyr

Mordekaiser has had more bugs than I can recall and honestly just is a really old champ. He completely relies on damage, doesn't really have a solid theme of either being a metal-mancer or soul manipulator, and let's not forget his pizza feet. Riot needs to nail down what he needs to be, cause he's one of those champs I'd love to play based on character and theme, but can't due to how he is right now.

Pantheon is just one dimensional, an absolute nightmare to lane against if you don't know how to play/build against him (not to mention a bit oppressive) and he just kind of serves as a cheap Spartan fantasy knock-off. There can be a lot more to him, especially now that the lore is being updated, though considering on how Targon is being hated for all the shit they've been doing I wouldn't be surprised if everyone hated him more.

Kayle + Morgana has kind of been something floating around for a while as a duo rework. Plus with the somewhat lore bombs of Aatrox interacting with them, it also would help them be brought into modern League lore (since at this point everyone says they're ascended).

Udyr I just straight up hate. From his looks, his lore, his gameplay, everything. He's basically an experiment of Riot for making a "no-ult champ" that is sometimes a pain in the ass to deal with. I also just don't really get the whole Ionia aspect of his base lore. SG makes sense but I'd imagine Udyr to be a bit more wild of a champ with these spirits.

Outside of those top tier choices, some personal ones of mine would be Malphite Tryndamere MonkeyKing

Malphite just doesn't have a place in League's lore. He still goes off of the whole "taken from another world" story and with how League has been updating champs to be grounded in one location, that leaves the big moving mountain out of the picture. Not to mention that his kit is a bit outdated and his ult, while iconic, almost feels like bullshit to play against sometimes (IT MOVES SO GODDAMN FAST)

Tryndamere IS A PEEVE OF MINE! He's just annoying, outdated, and overall just a pain in the ass!

MonkeyKing kind of is similar to Tryn. He just doesn't have that interesting of a kit. Passive was literally given on another item, and otherwise other games have made him more interesting. Outside of that, he's just stats with a stick.

I hope they keep Cho'Gath's infinite health scaling in his rework. It's the reason he is Cho'Gath. He is a massive, beefy kaiju that is the ultimate war of attrition champion.

I really don't think Pantheon DrMundo are particularly urgent in terms of Gameplay. I'd be more than happy for them to get a VU with maybe a few small gameplay tweaks (they basically just need modernized versions of their current kits like Warwick and Galio got).

The highest priority reworks, in my opinion, are Fiddlesticks Mordekaiser Shaco Volibear because they need complete overhauls of their kits because they range from worthless to even remotely viable and therefore incredibly toxic to the game.

I omitted Kayle Morgana because I have a feeling that their VGUs are already well underway.

How Malphite never gets mentioned in rework threads I don't know, have you guys seen his base model?

Stars Shaper7/13/2018, 12:40:40 PM1 votes

I honestly don't see Cho'gath and Corki as VGU material, gameplay wise they might seem more basic then others but that's fine. They might just need some artistic refinement.

Pantheon is my #1 desire for VGU. But I feel that even next year he won’t make the cut.

It’s a bit hard to guess for me because it seems less predictable lately. And is more about “ We found a good direction on this champ, so they’re next”
