Hello Commnunity, Hello Riot,

today i want to draw your attention to a a topic that for me, as someone who is interested in the lore and art around the game, is really important: Renekton's old classic splashart; which truelly was a piece of art.

His new Splashart does not really fit the champion in my opinion and falls short in direct comparison to the old one. I don't really want to compare these two. Comparison is bound to subjectification and each of them obviously is a piece of art on it's own. So i'd rather list the things i don't like in the new Splash and ( more importantly) the things i loved about the old. Also, this thread is not meant as an affront to the artist of the new splashart but rather a bid to give us back Renekton's old and gorgeous splashart.

Let me start by telling you what i don't like about the new splashpicture:

  1. The distorted jawline and the poorly alinged teeth. in fact, the overall body really looks unpropotionate and amateurishly composed.
  2. The small, round, yellow eyes that would fit a pig-champion but do not do an ascended demigod crocodile justice.
  3. The croctail looks like a loaf of meat meaninglessly flailing in the background of the picture. A disgrace if you know how much of the tail makes Renekton's modell ingame. The tail is one of the biggest part of this champion.
  4. Renekton's Batleth™, which is a huge part of the champion, is pushed into the background rather than looking like the huge, defining, magic-imbued weapon that it is in the old splashart (and ingame, mind you).
  5. Seriously, the new splash art seems more like a meanspirited joke from Riven-mains than a fitting artistical impression of the champion.

Let's now get to the old, gorgeous, legendary splashart:

  1. The propotions of the overall warrior-crocodile look healthy and well-composed. Everything, from the mucles and tendons (which are non-existend on the new one) to the colouring and especially the shading, it really looks well-composed and artistically proficient. I would also like to draw your attention to the scales that really do look like the impenetrably and thorny armor they are meant to be rather than a nasty skin disease like on the new splashart.
  2. The eyes. You can really feel the immense power of the godlike being living within the physical manifestation of a crocodile. They are litteraly sparkling with raw power.
  3. The cracked and rune-edged bonearmor really fits the lore, since it gives the impression of immense, but faded and out-dated glory and eons passed battling Xerath in a sealed tomb in the shuriman desert. (I know it's not alinged with the ingame modell anymore, but it does not have to be. Renekton's armor is just an addon anyways. A remnant of his past as a warrior.)
  4. The Weapon. Gods. This sword. Look at it. It's just... Everything, from to the way the blood and sands (again: Lore -> Shurima!) are flowing and turmoiling along it's edge, to the way it is streamlined with Renkton's body, giving the impression to be a depply embedded part of him rather than a hunk of metal that is randomly tossed towards the nearest enemy. After all renekton is still a veteran warrior, his proficiency with his signature weapon is mirrored in his abilities. His rage does not make him a mindless blob of flesh and metal aimlessly scavenging the shuriman desert but rather an unstoppable and aimed/sentient singularity of vengeance and godlike reptilian power.
  5. A E S T H E T I C S

The new splashart feels more like a sketch and does not do the champion justice. Renekton's old splashart truelly was a piece of art and obviously was a fitting portray of the champion.

Give Renekton his glory back! Give us back the old splashart!

Have a nice day 5Days

That splash was Chinese and a placeholder. Renekton also received a model update during the first Shurima event that changed his looks, hence the new splash. The old one wouldn't match his in-game and doesn't meet Riot's current standards. I like it, but a revert's not gonna happen.
