I guess Aatrox ret-cons Varus' new lore

Varus lore, which was made not that long ago and is part of the new regime:

The mortal mages of Runeterra wielded wild magic, heedless of the consequences beyond their own world. Their reckless use of magic attracted the hunger of the darkin, who sent their fiercest warriors to conquer this new world. Varus traveled to Runeterra with the second wave of invaders, and with his crystalline bow, he assassinated enemy commanders and champions, helping the darkin defeat the mortal armies with ever greater ease.

Aatrox's new blurb on the PBE:

Once honored defenders of Shurima against the Void, Aatrox and his brethren would eventually become an even greater threat to Runeterra, and were defeated only by cunning mortal sorcery. But after centuries of imprisonment, Aatrox was the first to find freedom once more, corrupting and transforming those foolish enough to try and wield the magical weapon that contained his essence. Now, with stolen flesh, he walks Runeterra in a brutal approximation of his previous form, seeking an apocalyptic and long overdue vengeance.

It's not the retcon that bothers me. It's the fact that they made this lore not too long ago and are already changing it. That sounds like indecision to me. Like, they might explain it in Aatrox's deep lore, but I feel like the blurb could've been worded better to avoid initial confusion.

I dont see contradictions there.

“Reckless use of magic” could mean their opening of the Void.

Just because Darkin first appeared in Shurima doesn’t mean they can’t have originated somewhere else.

I don’t see any contradictions.

  1. Aatrox and his brethren are drawn to Runeterra by the Void
  2. They agree to help kill it.
  3. They turn on Shurima and humanity once the deed is done.
  4. A huge Darkin war occurs as they pour in from their home world.
  5. They are sealed into weapons.

Perhaps they weren't invaders 'until the second wave'. It could also be a possiblity there were 2 Darkin factions, one that allied with Runeterra and another that initially sought its destruction.
