Which champions do you think have the best personalities and backstories
I assume the popular choice is jinx just because of her harley quinn vibe that appeals to alot of gamers, but I personally like amumu's backstory. What about you guys?

Personally I think Zed was very well done. Adopted as an orphan, raised as Shen's brother, he struggled in the shadow of his sparring partner who always seemed to be better than him. Frustrated, he looked for a shortcut, anything that would help him become stronger enough to defeat Shen. He goes snooping in a forbidden library and ends up tainted by living shadow. Even though it lets him defeat Shen, his master and adoptive parent "banishes* him for doing what was forbidden.
He travels, scorned, amassing his own army of shadow disciples, and one day he returns to prove that he is the greater ninja, beheading the temple master and thus violently promoting Shen.
There is so much emotion and backstory to explore and speculate on. How did Zed feel? What made him act this way?
Perhaps his was motivated by passion, aggravated by Shen's increasingly dispassionate demeanor (Shen was being trained separately to become the Eye of Twilight, devoid of emotion) and searching for a way to break that wall of cold and unfeeling behavior. Did he see Shen as a brother? Did it hurt to watch his brother be chosen for a great destiny, and be left behind, to watch as Shen trained to set aside all emotion, becoming separate and robotic? Maybe he was seeking the love and approval of his master, wanting to do anything to defeat Shen and share in that spotlight of favorite son.
And what did the shadow scroll do? What conversation did Zed have with his master when he was banished? What went through his mind, being told that he could no longer be a part of the only family he ever knew, the only life he ever wanted? Of course he would become angry, saddened by loss but also jealous of the world that excluded him. Instead of sharing the spotlight he is cast permanently into the darkness. Is it any wonder he would turn against their world of calculated rules and sacrifice? That he would seek to become the kind of master that would have embraced young Zed's talents? Yes, he wants to fix the world by proving once and for all that those forbidden techniques aren't just acceptable, but superior.
In fact, the shadow techniques are the true embodiment of what it means to be Ninja. Everything else is poor imitation.
So he builds his followers, centered around a new ideology. They would have varied powers, be outcasts in their own rights that he chose to redeem. He returns to his master to prove that his way is better, stronger.
It is a perfect counterpoint, the raw emotion and "nothing is sacred, everything is permitted" mentality that goes so perfectly against the structure, balance, and rules of the Kinkou. Zed walks in darkness. Shen watches the stars.
Best, plot, ever.

Old
, before they tossed her lore in the same dumpster fire the rest of league's lore is sitting in. Saddest story that has ever been.
Poppy's short story is the best, though she's not my favourite personality.
Kled is my favorite personality and story. But renekton and Galios stories are a close second.
In terms of being interesting, the winners for Backstory go to Riven and Shen. Every time they come up in the lore, my heart leaps.
I probably couldn't tell you the best personality, imo. I like all of them, besides Jihn. The serial killer persona somehow makes my blood boil. I get the same vibes from him like I would a child molester or a rapist, you know?
My favorite lore is probably Aatrox. He is a mysterious figure who is in the history books of nearly every country in every era and he always shows up in times of war.
Personality?
Backstory?

Mordekaiser.
Sejuani!
stubborn, cold, wild.
she has every right to be the queen as much as Ashe and Lissandra but no one gives a damn about her rights or opinion which makes her even more agitated.she is been sold as a savage barbarian by Ashe and her followers and they created a tyrant out of her! they fear her!
Cho'Gath. He's outdated and still waiting for an update(visual, gameplay, and Lore-wise) but I always loved the fact that he could be stronger than he's letting on. Back in the old lore, it was basically implied that Cho allowed the summoners to contain him. That he could break free whenever he wanted. "Woe betide the day when Cho'Gath grows weary of the League" I believe that Cho was actually the one mocking Aurelion Sol through that Void rift. He mocks you as you play him claiming you have "stains upon your soul" and that "your darkness beckons"
Personality Karma. But I don't know her story.
Personality

Backstory

All of these:
, Rakan, and Xayah.
Ether by personality, or by backstory, or both.

Best personality. Though I wouldn't give him best backstory.

No question.
I love everything about this champ hearing the two characters talk to eachother is 99% of the reason I play/played her. If she was still strong I'd actually take time out of my busy support schedule to play her in jungle.
Guys no Sion? Seriously?
While his backstory hasn't been completely revealed, his personality is presented perfectly as a tragic monster. Not the whole "oh woe is me" gimmick, but because he isn't lucid for long enough to really grasp the monster he has become.
Why is this important? Because you get his more lucid quotes when he's walking out of combat. When there is no blood or carnage to get his undead body into a frenzy. He's just doing his "Endless marching" because he doesn't realize that that he's dead. But the moment he starts fighting, that quiet lucidity is replaced with BLOOD SOAKED RAGE AS HE GRINDS BONES INTO DUST! He forgets everything in the midst of battle, being drawn by it like a horse to a carrot.
That constant state of being so close yet so far to realizing what he's become? It's probably the better tragedy in league, especially since he himself may actually be disgusted with what he is.
You know how in "50 first dates" Adam Sandler makes the female lead fall in love with him every day as if they just met? That's basically Sion but instead of making someone love him, he constantly forgets something that is just at the tip of his tongue.
A war hero that single handily saved a nation at the cost of his life, turned into an abomination of nature that not only ruins his reputation, but the reputation of the faction he died for. Noxus revealed how far they were willing to go when they brought him back, and the results were so dangerous that they'd rather bury it and forget it. Leaving Sion in a constant state of unending death and silence, never at peace.
It's beautiful.
I'd also argue Warwick's new lore. There's a hint of tragedy that reminds me of Kaine as Scarlet Spider in Marvel. The tag line for one arc is "the spider who wished to be a man" referencing Kaine as more of a monster despite everything he tries to be "human".
Warwick is similar. Before his transformation, its theorized that Warwick was a criminal who at one point was trying to go straight. But Singed saw the potential of the animal inside of him and forcefully brought it to the surface. Now Warwick inside is his outside, but his desire to at least do some good is not only there but keeps him holding on to his sanity by a thread. It is what pushes him to target criminals.
Warwick was a monster that wanted to be human. Now he's a monster who hunts monsters. He's the darkness that stares back.
Draven, because Draaaaaaaaveeeeeeeeen.
In terms of backstory I think that Sion has one of the best ones in the game in my opinion. It is very dark, tragic and kinda deep. You can look at his story from different perspectives. I don't want to repeat myself so here's my take on him.
Another prominent backstory is Karthus. He might not seem to be as deep at first look as Sion but he is very interesting character and has depth that is more subtle. We may call him entirely evil at first as his entire purpose seems to be killing the living but when we will take things under consideration that life is not the beginning and the end of consciousness in League of Legends world his intentions aren't that bad. He himself experienced the "beauty of death" on his own skin that freed him from emotions, limitations of flesh, suffering and mortality. He wants to share this gift with others and he does so painlessly. He means no harm to others (generally), he even opposes other Shadow Isles entities with their enslaving and torturing of the dead as he truly cares for others. He is a lich that is unique. He isn't general lich that does evil things because muh power and look i'm so evil. He is a singing lich that works kinda like an apostle and he genuinely believes that he is doing good, the right thing.
Going back to depth that I mentioned before. One of the main points of Karthus morality is that he ignores the will of others as he thinks that he is doing the right thing and it is his duty to show mortals the right path (even if they like it or not).
I'm gonna quote Cardinal Sinveil - one of the users of these boards and a guy that made a beautiful characterisation of Karthus.
Karthus has that medieval, missionary theme going on for him. In real life philosophy, I'd allocate his views somewhere along the lines of Platonism (where the body is seen as a prison of the soul) and Buddhism and other Eastern Philosophies (where life is suffering and the material realm is an illusion). There are philosophies that are a good combination of Platonism and Buddhism, and they are the worldviews of the medieval "Gnostic Schools". The Gnostics viewed the material realm as a creation of the Devil and explained all suffering due to the devil and the imperfections of matter. The soul must renounce the material pleasures trough asceticism and ascend to the beyond.
Karthus might see himself helping others by turning them into undead spirits. In that way, the body decays, the person becomes more ethereal and his soul becomes more dominant, because in undeath the desires of the body (such as lust or gluttony) are suspended. And just as medieval Christians (and some modern ones aswell) saw it as their duty to convert others and show them the truth, so does Karthus feel like he must show others the truth that he has seen and experienced. I think he views the living as unfree to begin with and thus is not concerned about infringing their free will. Only after being "enlightened" (or in the case of Karthus i'd say "endarkened") is a person capable of being free.
Not only Karthus lore itself is great in terms of ideas but the multitude of ways to interpret it or those details that you can relate to already existing philosophical traditions and schools make it even better.
In terms of personalities I adore Gragas, Jax and Braum personalities. They may not be the most complex but I always liked those cheerful characters that looked for ocassions to brawl, have fun and show how good they are at their respective things (beating weaklings with joke of a weapon or drinking scrubs under the table in this scenario).
When we look for more complex personalities then I'd say that Viktor has the best one. A scientist that make himself look kinda edgy and villanous but in fact is a good person that wants to change world around him in questionable manner for good. helps those in need, is very calculative and stoic. All these things really appeal to me.

Done deal.
