From a purely visual standpoint there's nothing that really screams 'darkin' about Varus. Someone who knew nothing about league likely wouldn't know he was the same species as Rhaast or Aatrox if you put them next to each other. He's very human and the Darkin are very demon/monster like, he's got a mostly purple color scheme while they have a mostly red one, etc. So I have to wonder, do you think there are any plans to give Varus a visual update and bring him more in line with the current darkin aesthetic? I know his voicelines could use an update but I feel like his appearance could too and that the aspect of his looks doesn't get talked about as much.

Now personally I like his signature evil twink (or is he more of a twunk?) aesthetic and I wouldn't want to lose that, buuuuut I also wouldn't mind him looking more bestial too. I just don't know that there's a happy middle ground to keep his current looks while also making him look more like a darkin. Some horns or sharp teeth at the very least would go a long way I think, for starters.

Darkin corrupt their hosts over time. He will likely get more darkin-y as his story progresses in future.

(Aatrox has been active for a while, Kayn's transformation in game is not typical of the process)

I'm with you there. Varus was my "first" champion, so I'm really protective of the character's integrity, but since it seems this whole Diet Darkin thing is what Rito is sticking with...let's go all out. Keep him gorgeous and twinky, but get some cohesion here with the rest of the cast.

The real reason is because Varus was not designed as a Darking back in 2012 his form made more sense with the old lore. So they kept his appearance because i for one would hate if they changed him, changing his appearance wouldn't really feel good right now, he definitely needs updated visuals though.

The thing is that the Darkins themselves don't have a common trait.

The real Aatrox actually looks like his Arclight Justicar skin, his demonic appearance as base skin is because of him using the flesh and bones of his victims while Rhaast looks exactly like that. Most of the Darkins have either kept the animalistic form or used a pletora of different magics to alter their look as they saw fit, there is no distinctive physical trait except the relationship with their weapon (if they were captured).

That's because varus lore was retconned from family guy who lost his wife and son and got magically corrupted to darkin w a gay couple inside to fill a political agenda

Id say he has a bit more human in him if ya know what I mean I mean rhaast only corrupted Kayn Varus has two humans inside of him so he might look a bit more human Nevermind came back and there’s a rioter comment lol

Didn't they release some backstory video a while back telling the story of how Varus was a human who got posessed by a darkin but still has plenty of human left in him? That's kind of what I remember. Could be wrong.

Well here's an idea, you could give him the Kai'sa treatment... Let me explain. You could update his current visual to look the same, but when he hits 100 AD, he looks slightly more Darkin-y.

Just be sure to include voice lines for Valmar and Kai... And when he hits 100 AD, give Varus some unique voice lines and silence the hosts. One thing I think would be cool is his death animation. Have Varus scream in agony as 2 souls ascend to the heavens.

Wasn't there a post last year (right about when the Varus cinematic came out) detailing that Varus would be getting a new VO to better reflect his lore? What happened to that?
