My take/issue with the new PROJECT reveal

If you don't know by now, the PROJECT teaser for this year dropped. In it, we saw what was confirmed to be Pyke joining in the series, along with teasers for Jinx, Irelia and Akali. There is also word spreading around that Warwick is secretly a fifth champ joining in, not sure if this is found in the source code, hidden image of the video or whatever, but we're getting 5 champs added to the series.

Now, getting more PROJECT skins I don't mind that much. It's a pretty decent series, ties in with a good chunk of other series, like Battlecast and Program if I recall (could be wrong). What I do take issue with are the champions selected for this year, mainly the big four three : Pyke, Jinx, & Akali.

Pyke should be pretty obvious for two reasons: he's a still recently new champ & he already got a skin this year. This is a very similar issue I have with Kai'Sa, she previously had gotten K/DA back in November and then got another skin just a few weeks ago (that's not counting her Esports skin she also got recently). I'm fairly certain Pyke is popular and whatnot but when Riot keeps choosing the recently released and/or popular champs for skins, it just feels like they're not trying anything for the rest of the roster. I mean, could they really not try and give this spot to someone like Kassadin, who has gone without a new skin for quite sometime, or Talon, who would fit perfectly in this addition to the series?

Jinx and Akali are essentially similar in that they haven't even gone a full year after they got new skins (Odyssey for Jinx in Sept, K/DA again for Akali in Nov). Again, it feels like Riot doesn't want to try. They're playing it way too safe in picking these champs instead of maybe giving it to other champs that would still fit in, like Draven and Olaf.

Irelia I won't go on much since she's kind of mixed for me. On the one hand if we do count her Esports skin, it just feels a bit much to me. On the other hand if we don't count it (like a lot of people do), her last skin was over a year ago and we have been asking for this concept for a while now so...meh?

All that's really left is to see if people are right about Warwick because if that is true, I'm curious as to how it'll look. I mean, the PROJECT series has mostly been, up to this point, humans. Warwick isn't exactly human anymore so I'm curious as to how this will be handled.

Overall, I'm not that excited for this set of skins again. Much like Arcade, it just feels like Riot is catering too much and playing it too safe. Maybe in the next few batches of skins this year we'll see more variety and love to champs who need it, but as of now I'm just not interested.

"Odyssey for Jinx in Sept, K/DA again for Akali in Nov" Irelia's last non-esports skins was September last year too, not even a year.

so essentially you coulda just said: "i don't like the chosen champs" instead of writing all this.

champs getting yearly skins is common, jinx has been on this trend for years now. how dare they not wait 2 months so it's exactly 1 year since her last one.

I see this shit every time, it's not as bad as for ez and lux but every damn time she gets a skin someone starts bitching about favouritism, but i still ain't forgetting these boards not saying a damned thing about jhin getting 3 skins in 1 damned year. genuinly done taking these posts serious, you guys show the same favouritism riot does.

i'll agree pyke is a bit fast, but he fits the line better than like 90% of the cast.

I've been feeling this for the past few years now. Every time people have just said "popular champs sell more so get over it" but I have NEVER seen a company focus this hard on popular champs. I can't think of one game, let alone a MOBA that would spam skins this hard on popular champs. But for some reason it's fine cause Riot's making money cause of it.

It would be fine if the money was going back into making something nice for the less popular champs. New lore, nice videos with unpopular champs in them, something. But it's not. the money goes right back into making more stuff for the popular champs.

the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Riot is pretty much beyond the point of redemption in the skin department. They are going to make skins for popular champs and while everyone will make excuses about thematics and such, what it really boils down to is money. Riot wants it, so they will squeeze as much as possible out of the community as possible. If you like an unpopular champ, then your out of luck cause that champ doesn't bring in any money.

How does "wE cAn'T CoNtRoL ThE MoNsTeRs We CrEaTe" fit with Akali and Irelia? Two champions who stand for balance and order and protecting the homeland? At this point i'm certain that Riot has a "trending champions" list from which to select who to give skins to.

Considering the idea of this PROJECT line it makes perfect sense for Pyke to get a skin. He would easily suit it visually (which he does) and the idea of him killing all the people that are part of the PROJECT Corp suits well with his OG lore. It sits perfect with me, Irelia is the one that confuses the hell outta me, considering at least Jinx and Akali have reason the be "outcasts", i know the original lore isn't exactly the same as a different skin universe but with their actual personality not changing it makes sense. Irelia on the other hand?? same reason i didn't like dark star karma, it just doesnt feel like her, Irelia shoulda been one of the cops like Vi or been with the rebels like Ashe and Yi, but thats just my take. Riot wants to make money this year and its pretty clear with the champs they pick for skins and going back to the old skin lines that were popular. thats how it be with a FTP game like League.

Battlecast isn't in the PROJECT universe. Riot has confirmed this, and Battlecast isn't even under the PROJECT universe in the client's skins tab.

something i take into account for aswell is that visual reworks. Akali and irelia got every one of their skins updated so to me that is basically a new skin because they upgrade them with their new VFX engine. and because of kda akali, even though we all know prestige is just a chroma it is listed as a skin so she got two skins in close time lengths.

also Project is mostly limited to ADC's so even though i hate that jinx is getting ANOTHER skin. she technically fits the role. pyke looks cool but he is an assassin and doesnt really belong in the project skinline. i know there is master yi and he is classed as assassin but i classify Project as the Carry skinline if you catch my drift.

the least Riot could do is update old models and skins for untouched champions like skarner and xerath the chroma master. Because if its that hard for them to come up with ideas for the champions they never touch with skins the least they could do is update their current skins

Riot could've easily made dark star Sol. Its literally a freebie in terms of the effort they'd have to put in. All they'd have to do is make him purple lmao

The champion pick is OK for me, except Warwick. What happens to the humanoid thing?

I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but it's the truth. Riot makes skins for popular champions. It's their main source of income. They will occasionally release a skin for a not so popular skin but that's all there is it to. Skins for popular champs make the money.
