Was Yasuo based off of Musashi Miyamoto?

Please do not insult Musahi Miyamoto. He deserves better than this.

If he was, he'd have an oar like a real fighter, not a sword. :P

Yasuo is based on the Ronin stereotype in it's modern form. Historical images based on him look quite different.

Having just read vagabond I understand where the comparison comes from. But it's more so that he's based on an archetype based on Musashi.

Short answer is "yes, but not only":

1. First we have Musashi (so the wandering ronin with the aim of street fighter's ryu, becoming stronger)... Musashi created some other characters, such as;
2. Haohmaru from samurai showdown (with a bit of Ukyo, from the same franchise);
3. Mitsurugi (especially from Soul Calibur 4);
4. then, lastly, we arrive at Yasuo

Miyamoto Musashi is hardly Yasuo.

The real Musashi was a talented artist, a devout Buddhist, a martial arts master and philosopher. Yasuo has none of these qualities that makes Musashi being worshipped as he is.

Yasuo on the otherhand is nothing but turmoil and a warrior. Not a artist or philosopher.
