What is it exactly? We have bits of vague information from her lore.

"As an infant, she was found abandoned on the doorstep of an Ionian adoption house, nestled atop an ancient instrument in an exquisite case of unknown origins."

The instrument itself is magical, and Sona is just the maven, and it seems to be magically attached to Sona.

"During this time, the caretakers sold her unusual instrument to anxious collectors, hoping to build her a trust. For a myriad of bizarre and unexpected reasons, however, it would be returned, or simply appear again outside the house."

Lux claims she knows what it is, but gives no information to what it is. Is it from Mt. Targon? A darkin weapon? Crafted by Ornn? How did it end up with Sona?

I'm afraid there is no official statement nor any hints what it can be. Etymology doesn't exist in Runeterra, so we can't use that method here. But I can try something else, we know it is ancient, so it can't be demacian, its aesthetics suggest that it isn't Freljordian nor Darkinian, its powers gives me assuption for it to be either Ionnian or Shurimian, because Ionnia is known for its appreciation of culture, music and dance, and Shurima is known for being dominant and opressive, yet inspiring. Both of those nations are ancient. You can only try guessing what was the old use of etwahl, maybe it was more like a commanders panel.
