2019 Lore Tournament - Day 7: The Echoes left Behind vs The Whispering Doodad

EDIT: Alright, seems like I am one of the few people that do love Tamara. TELB wins with 44 to 17 votes. Stupid spirits.

#####~~ A long-awaited battle ~~

This will be one for the history books! Both stories got a lot of praise, and both are exceptional in their own right. They introduced or featured important returning NPCs such as Ledros or Tamara, and shed some light on champions that were not exactly in the spotlight for some time (Shadow Isles, Yordles, and... Draven?) [draven-pose]

Anyway, I also want to point out that the community on these posts is awesome, the comments on yesterdays post praise both stories for what they are, and no one attacks a story (or worse, the author) because they didn't like it. Carry on like this!

#####~~ Spirits near and far~~

Are you ready for a trip to the Spirit Realm? First, we dive into the unnatural life of the shadow isles, then visit a glade in Noxus.

In the first story, The Echoes left Behind, we witness the story of Ledros, Champion of the King, now a restless spectre. He desperately wants to bring an end to the suffering of the Isles, to free the love of his life (and death) - Kalista, the Spear of Vengeance. He can almost reach out to her - but then, the moment is gone. Oh, how sweet the suffering of this one tastes... Another spectre appears...

In the second story, The Whispering Doodad, Lulu and Tristana are traveling with a whispering key doodad when they run into Noxians on their way home. Draven tries to attack them, but the yordles can ward him and the bold warmason off. When the situation seems dire, nature strikes back and gives the yordles a chance to escape.

So... The Echoes Left Behind. First of all, because I really like Kalista as a character, and I liked her portrayal in the story. I loved the little tidbits we got on the Black Mist, and Ledros... Well, let's just say he had it rough. Poor buddy. The Whispering Doodad was fun, I liked it. Again, a light-hearted story (written by Graham!) is always welcome. To be fair, I think the only reason I'm voting TELB instead of TWD is because of Kalista, because I really loved both stories.

The Whispering Doodad was hilarious and conveyed so much character through little things, so I'm voting for it! Echoes was also good; I really loved how the end raised that question of, "How would Kalista have been released? What would it look like if she was?" and "What does this mean for the rest of the Shadow Isles residents?"

The Echoes Left Behind for me.

While The Whispering Doodad is a fun, low stakes romp that's enjoyable and charming to read, the sheer crushing despair of Ledros's attempts at doing anything right are so compelling. The poor fellow does everything in his power to help, and forces beyond his control just shit him down at every turn, to the point where he might as well give up.

But while he DOES give up on his original goal, he doesn't stop, and keeps going. The story speaks to determination, loss, depression, all things that, wrapped up in the package of Ledros, are well conveyed and expertly handled.

Also the story baited me so hard in to thinking Ledros would be a champion. I STILL WANT THAT but even as an npc Ledros fills out the Shadow Isles nicely and I hope to see more of him soon.

The Echoes Left Behind by far! Whispering Doodad was a mess and I understand that it is what the story was trying to convey on the yordles journey however, it was way too confusing to properly follow.

Yes.

Ehhh... I'm saying Whispering Doodad, we need Yordle Lore way more than Shadow Isles lore. Both were excellent stories though!

Given how well the story between Trist Lulu and the Noxians were told. Also we get so little stories around the Yordles. This one was really great and brought out there personalities well.

Both are fantastic, but...

The Echoes Left Behind had a lot more emotional beats for me, so I’m going with that one.

Once again, both stories are extremely good at conveying what they want to.

A lot of people talking about Kalista, Ledros and yordles... but no one has mentioned THE BEST.

Draven

Anyways... im not voting for The Whispering Doodad because of Draven or the Yordles... the REAL reason is Tamara. Sure, Ledros is cool, but Tamara has already been seen in so many other stories and she keeps going. I love when a random NPC, from one random story, starts appearing in more and more stories like that... I would even say that we have more stories about her than Tristana or Lulu.

Tbh I didn't like the Whispering Doodad at all so my vote goes to Ledros (that and I liked his story a lot). Might be because I despise Yordles who aren't Veigar tho

CaptainAntiHeroz12/7/2019, 11:18:04 PM1 votes

is it just me or does Lulu look kinda pink in the art for that story?

although i really liked seeing the two together and how they interact..... still doesn't make up for the dearth of yordle lore
