Thoughts on the 2017 SKT T1 Skins
So, before I start, I just gotta say; Take everything said with a grain of salt, as these are opinions. I'm well aware that there are people who like the older Worlds Team skins (my brother included), but this is coming from someone who generally doesn't like them.
When I saw on Surrender@20 that the next set of World's skins was in development, I glanced over the images at first. Olaf, Ekko, Nami, Syndra, ZAC, and Jhin. I love Jhin - all the other skins are pretty cool IMO, but Jhin and Ekko look the best, but there's more to be said than just "I like them".
When I saw Jhin's poise with an SKT T1 skin promise, I was at first irritated - I hate the prior Worlds skins appearances (hoodies, shades, headsets, leggings, sneakers, etc.) and initially had only the barest interest, but looking over the art a second time, I found a thematic way different than what I came to expect out of Worlds skinset.
Taking a quote from Bang from the video (English subtitles); "I'd really like for it to have armor like a knight from the Middle Ages - I think it'll be okay for the artists to do what they want with that. Please put in the wings."
And, more, the general keywords for the skin's aesthetics; "High fantasy", "ceremonious", "warriors".
While I absolutely love the result of all that combined (the wing-style pauldron and sharp, pronounced mask, and the wing-like cloak), I want to take a moment and compare it to the other Jhin skins.
Classic - obviously, everyone knows the feel of the Golden Demon - he's operatic, embellished, and even still enigmatic, with a harmony of colors underneath the blacks-and-whites of his cloak, hood, and mask.
High Noon - designed to imitate his original concept, the "cyborg bounty-hunter sniper" is more in line with the High Noon skins - clean-dressed and rugged underneath, with anything over top being torn and weather-worn, with the never-unattractive Western allure.
Blood Moon - evoking the appearance of a priest and a demon, while still maintaining that embellishment natural to Jhin, the Calligraphy Demon is dressed in cold blue garb with red lining, with lamellar spaulders, fox-tails or paint brush heads blooming over his shoulder, and blood-cursed, demonic arms sprouting spines where his naked skin aught to be.
SKT T1 - the upcoming skin draws from some of the same ethereal aesthetics as Paladins or the like (look at Jayce Brighthammer for an example), and while looking like an angelic messenger, it also looks truly unique, with pronounced features, emphasis of design, and the mysterious kind of absence of detail that feels rightly "Jhin".
Altogether, I can safely say that, for once, I'm excited to see a Worlds skin coming to one of my favorite Champions in League of Legends.
That's enough rambling for me, though - if anyone has any thoughts they'd like to add, feel free to!
